Hello and welcome to Sportstar’s highlights of the IPL 2025 match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on May 27.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru became the first team in IPL history to win all away league matches after beating Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow on Tuesday.
Ayush Badoni has come onto bowl. Three runs off first two balls. SIX!! RCB has done it. Its highest successful chase in IPL history. RCB finishes top two.
O’Rourke. Bouncer, Jitesh upper cuts and gets a four! What a gem of an innings he’s playing. Lovely batting. Another four! Jitesh smacks the ball over covers. SIX!! Back of the length and Jitesh goes straight! Powerful shot. SIX!! Another maximum, this time slogged over midwicket. 21 runs from that over.
39 needed off 24 balls.
Digvesh for his final over. OUT! Jitesh is gone. Goes for the reverse sweep and is caught at backward point. Umpires are looking if the catch is clean. It’s a no ball!! And that too a backfoot no ball. Jitesh survives. SIX!! Jitesh slogs way into the midwicket region. What a way to reach his fifty. Jitesh gets it in 22 balls. Quicker delivery and Jitesh is beaten. He asks for a wide but umpire thinks it is not. RCB has reviewed for a wide. It’s a fair delivery.
Digvesh has attempted for a run out at non strikers’ end. He’s out. Mankad as it is popularly known. Jitesh has to go. Run out. Pant has taken the appeal back. Otherwise, Jitesh was out of his crease.
11 runs from that eventful over.
51 runs needed off 30 balls. Jitesh, Mayank, Romario, and Krunal – four recognised batters. Can RCB pull this off?
Avesh is back. Jitesh lines up to go for a ramp, Avesh bowls a bouncer and it’s called a wide. Pant has reviewed. It is a wide, review wasted. Jitesh hits straight and beats the long off fielder for four! Another four! This time to the other side of long off fielder. Jitesh is playing a blinder. 12 runs from the over.
FOUR! Shahbaz comes back. Cut away by Jitesh and O’Rourke lets the ball go through his legs and to the boundary rope. Jitesh sweeps the next delivery behind square and an excellent clean-up job by Bishnoi in the deep to save a couple. SIX! Jitesh steps out and clears deep extra-cover after getting to the pitch of the ball. FOUR! Swept by Jitesh and now he finds the square-leg fence. FOUR! Cut away by Agarwal, another misfield by O’Rourke at cover as he dives over the ball.
O’Rourke again. Jitesh will face the hat-trick ball and collects a single at long-off. SIX! Launched over long-off for a maximum as Jitesh lays into this slower delivery. FOUR! Full toss outside off and Jitesh reverse scoops past the keeper and to the boundary. Run out missed! O’Rourke can’t collect the ball and fails to catch Jitesh short of his ground at the non-striker’s end. A couple more at long-off for Agarwal off the last ball as there is another misfield.
Akash Deep comes back to bowl his final over. Jitesh miscues a scoop and gets an inside edge to square-leg for a single. Agarwal and Jitesh have only managed to take singles and a couple this over, off which only seven runs come. The required rate now closing in on 13.
Avesh comes back. Driven through covers and just a single for Agarwal. OUT! Kohli lifts this straight to the long-off fielder and that’s a huge wicket for LSG.
Skipper Jitesh Sharma is in next. FOUR! Whipped off the pads by Jitesh through square-leg and Jitesh is off the mark in style.
Virat Kohli c Ayush Badoni b Avesh Khan 54 (30b 10×4)
Digvesh comes back for his third over. FOUR! Agarwal cuts this very late with soft hands and beats point to find the third-man boundary. Pulled away to deep midwicket for one more by Agarwal. Punched to long-on by Kohli for one more. Excellent over, just seven from it. The required rate nearing 12 now.
Akash is back. Four! Kohli drives towards covers and gets to his fifty in style. A fifty off 27 balls. Back-to-back boundaries for Mayank! First a cut past point and then a pull towards square leg. Another four! Cuts past backward point. 18 runs from the over.
Mayank Agarwal is the new man in.
Shahbaz is back. Four! Kohli hits the ball straight down the ground for four. Lovely shot. Seven runs from the over.
O’Rourke is back. Patidar picks the ball over square leg for a six! Lovely shot. FOUR! This time Kohli with a lovely lofted drive over cover. OUT! Patidar is gone. He cuts straight to backward point. Falls after scoring 14 off seven balls.
Livingstone at the crease. OUT! He’s given LBW first ball. Yorker and he misses. Two in two for O’Rourke.
Digvesh. Quicker delivery and Patidar gets a thick outside edge for four. 10 runs came in that over. RCB is looking settled in this chase so far.
Akash is back. Kohli has completed 9000 runs for RCB across tournaments! OUT! Salt is gone. Short ball outside off, Salt tries to go over covers but ends up hitting straight to the fielder at covers. He goes after scoring 30 off 19 balls.
Rajat Patidar in at three. Kohli finishes the PowerPlay with a four. Cut past backward point.
Avesh Khan into the attack. Short ball and Kohli drills it down past mid on for four. Now Salt, goes over mid off for four! 10 runs from the over.
Shahbaz Ahmad into the attack. Tossed up and Salt hits the ball over mid on for four. He ends the over with another boundary. Cuts past extra cover for four.
Digvesh Rathi into the attack. Short ball and Salt pulls him behind square leg for four. Eight runs from the over. RCB has started well.
Will O’Rourke now. Three boundaries in the first four balls! Salt began the over with a cover drive. Kohli followed it up a ball later with a tickle past the keeper and an outside edge past short third. Fifth ball, one more four! This time Kohli pulls it towards midwicket. Kohli ends the over with another pull for four! Five boundaries in that over, 22 runs off it.
Phil Salt and Virat Kohli open the innings. Akash Singh with the new ball.
Salt begins the chase with a four straight down the ground. And Kohli finishes the over with a four, flicked towards midwicket.
Rishabh Pant waited till the last match of the season to return to form, and his 61-ball unbeaten 118 has powered Lucknow to 227/3. The 152-run stand between Pant and Mitchell Marsh for the second completely flattened the RCB attack, which was missing Josh Hazlewood. RCB faces an uphill task trying to qualify in the top two. Join us for the chase shortly.
Shepherd to bowl the final over of the innings. FOUR! Low full toss outside off and Pooran opens the face of the bat to find the third-man boundary. Slow and short and pulled by Pooran for a single. SIX! Full toss on the pads, and Pant flicks it away behind square for a maximum. OUT! Pulled by Pooran straight to fine-leg, where Dayal completes a low catch. The umpires are checking if that was taken cleanly and have asked Pooran to wait. It is deemed a fair catch and Pooran will have to walk back.
Abdul Samad comes in for the final delivery. He will only get a single at long-off and LSG posts 227/3 in 20 overs.
Nicholas Pooran c Yash Dayal b Romario Shepherd 13 (10b 1×4)
Dayal to bowl the penultimate over. He keeps it full to allow just three singles off the first three balls. FOUR! Too full outside off, Pant moves across his stumps and takes it on the full and finds the third man boundary. SIX! Slower one, and pulled over square-leg by Pant.
Bhuvneshwar bowls out. Starts with a wide yorker and Pant can’t get his bat down on time. But Pant thinks it’s a wide and has reviewed it. LSG loses the review as the ball is just inside the guideline. FOUR! Top edge on the pull for Pant and the ball flies over the keeper and to the boundary. A low full toss outside off next up and Pant slices it behind point for a single. Another full toss, on the pads, but just a single for Pooran at deep midwicket. FOUR! That’s a hundred for Pant, off just 54 balls, and it is fair to say that Pant is back.

Thushara comes back for his final over. He starts off with a wide down leg. Excellent over from Thushara, slows things up and concedes just seven runs. He ends with figures of 1/26 from four overs on his RCB debut.
SIX! Bhuvneshwar comes back and is greeted with a maximum. Slower one, back of a length and pumped over the bowler’s head by Marsh. SIX! Consecutive maximums for Marsh as he lifts this full delivery over long-off. The next one is very wide outside off and he will have to bowl that one again. OUT! Marsh gets a faint nick to the keeper and has to go. Scrambled seam outside off at a full length and Marsh tries to loft it but gets an edge. An ominous stand is finally broken and RCB will breath a sigh of relief.
Nicholas Pooran comes in and Bhuvneshwar goes around the wicket. He is off the mark with a flick for a single. Full, pushed through mid-on by Pant and he comes back for a second. FOUR! Wide yorker, Pant jams his bat at it and gets the ball to go over short-third and to the boundary.
Mitchell Marsh c Jitesh Sharma b Bhuvneshwar Kumar 67 (37b 4×4 5×6)
Shepherd comes back for his third over. Starts off with a wide outside off. 150 on the board for LSG in 14 overs. SIX! Length outside off and flayed over covers by Pant for a maximum. One more misfield, this time by Kohli at square-leg and that allows Pant to take an easy single. SIX! Fullish outside off and pumped down the ground for a maximum by Pant.
The RCB physio is having a look at Jitesh. A brief break in proceedings. Suyash to bowl his third over. SIX! Slightly short and pulled over deep midwicket for a maximum. That brings up Marsh’s sixth fifty of the season, off 31 balls. FOUR! Wide outside off and flayed over covers by Pant to the boundary. SIX! Pant classic! His bottom hand comes off the bat handle as he clears the boundary wide of long-on.
Krunal back into the attack. In the slot but Marsh can only muscle it to long-on for a single. Krunal is keeping the ball away from the hitting arc of both batters, and only three singles off the first four deliveries. This is spinning away very wide outside off, Pant decides to follow it and then tumbles over as he fails to reach it. The trademark bouncer from Krunal, and that’s one for the over.
Shepherd comes back. Short, slow and wide outside off, and Marsh slices it high in the air but the ball lands safely between long-on and long-off for just a single. FOUR! Sprayed on the pads and whipped to the boundary behind by Marsh. SIX! Too short and pulled over deep midwicket for a maximum. Wide yorker to end the over and driven away by Marsh for a quick single.
Dayal comes back for his second over. FOUR! Thrown wide outside off and slashed over short-third by Marsh for a boundary off the first ball. WIDE! Dayal under pressure and strays down leg-side. Another misfield, this time by Suyash at short fine-leg and Marsh comes back for a second. FOUR! Slower one and swatted down the ground by Pant for a boundary off the last ball of the over. Dayal goes for 31 in his first two overs.
Suyash continues. SIX! Googly outside off and slapped down the ground by Pant for a maximum. FOUR! Terrible misfield by Salt at backward point and another boundary for Pant. FOUR! Pulled through square-leg by Pant for consecutive boundaries. Pant brings up his fifty off 29 balls and a welcome return to form for the skipper.
image (24).jpg
Romario Shepherd into the attack. Marsh gets a half tracker and pulls it over square leg boundary for a six. RCB has bowled well in this phase so far apart from a few lose balls here and there. 10 runs from the over.
Suyash Sharma into the attack. Five singles in five balls so far. He’s bowling it really quick, Suyash. Six runs from the over.
Bhuvneshwar. The scoring rate has died down a bit in the last 10 deliveries. Batters dealing in singles at the moment. SIX! Pant breaks shackles as slaps the short ball over midwicket region. Full toss, Pant flicks towards square leg, a misfield in the deep gets LSG a boundary.
Thushara for his third over. He’s bowling well, Thushara. Aiming for the yorkers. Just one run in first four balls. A no ball by Thushara. Bowls a slow bouncer to Marsh, who gets a top edge over keeper for four. Just seven from the last over of PowerPlay.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar into the attack. Pant tries to play that falling ramp shot but doesn’t connect. A good over, just four runs off it.
Yash Dayal into the attack. Pant pushes the ball towards square leg and steals a double. SIX! Pant slog sweeps and ball goes into the stands over square leg. Huge hit. Now a bouncer, and Pant upper cuts over short third for four. Pant ends the over with another four. Slapped straight down the ground.
Thushara. Bouncer, Breeztke goes for a pull, gets a top edge over keeper and gets a boundary. That hit his helmet, and he’s getting treatment. After a brief medical break, Thushara bowls an outswinging yorker and knocks over the off stump. Breetzke is gone; falls after scoring 14 off 12 balls.
Rishabh Pant in at three. He’s off the mark with a single.
Krunal Pandya from the other end. SIX! On the pads and Breetzke comes down the track and lofts the ball over long on. Breetzke pushes for a quick single, keeper disturbs the stumps and appeals but Marsh is in. LSG takes out 10 runs from the over.
Nuwan Thushara with the first over. Mitchell Marsh and Matthew Breetzke open the innings.
Thushara induces an outside edge off Marsh’s bat and the ball goes past backward point for four. An LBW appeal against Marsh, but umpire doesn’t give. RCB reviews and the third umpire sees a big inside edge, not out. Now Breetzke gets his first boundary, flicks the ball off his pads towards midwicket. 11 runs from the first over.
RCB has won four out of five games while chasing this season. However, its only defeat while batting second came at this same venue, in its last game against SRH. However, it was chasing a mammoth 232 then.
Josh Hazlewood was not named in the starting XI of Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2025 match against Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow on Tuesday.
Lucknow is without Aiden Markram, who has left for national duty, but his opening partner partner Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran will set the stage on fire. They are the top six-hitters in the tournament. Pooran has 40 sixes while Marsh has 32 this season.
Philip Salt, Virat Kohli, Mayank Agarawal, Rajat Patidar, Liam Livingstone, Jitesh Sharma (wk (c), Romario Shepherd, Krunal Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Yash Dayal, Nuwan Thushara.
Mitchell Marsh, Matthew Breetzke, Nicholas Pooran, Rishabh Pant (wk (c), Ayush Badoni, Abdul Samad, Himmat Singh, Shahbaz Ahmed, Digvesh Singh Rathi, Avesh Khan, William O’Rourke.
Matthew Breetzke is set to make his IPL debut, Rishabh Pant confirms at the toss. Digvesh Rathi also returns to the Playing XI for the hosts.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru wins the toss and elects to bowl. Jitesh Sharma says Tim David and Josh Hazlewood are not fit for today’s game, and Liam Livingstone and Nuwan Thushara come into the Playing XI.
Jitesh Sharma is again at the centre for the toss, so Rajat Patidar continues to be unavailable as fielder and captain. He had come on as Impact Player in RCB’s last game against SRH, and scored a sluggish 16-ball 18.
The square boundaries are 64m and 66, and the straight boundary is 74m. Matthew Hayden says the surface is hard and has a good covering of grass. The pacers are going to bowl a lot of cutters, he reckons and the spinners could also have a say. This doesn’t look like a 200 pitch.
Michael Clarke says on the broadcast that Josh Hazlewood is unlikely to play today. Is RCB keeping him fresh for the Playoffs?
image (21).jpg
Virat Kohli is nearing two landmarks today. He is currently tied with David Warner for most fifties in the IPL. They are both on 62.
Kohli also just needs another 24 runs to complete 9000 runs for RCB.
