Match-Fixing Storm Hits IPL? Rajasthan Royals Break Silence Amid Allegations – UdaipurTimes.com
Udaipur, April 23, 2025: Rajasthan Royals lost to Delhi Capitals in the Super Over in the IPL on April 16. Then, the franchise lost again by just 2 runs against Lucknow Super Giants on April 19. Rajasthan had a chance to win both matches at some point.
After the loss, Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) Ad-Hoc Committee convener Jaideep Vihani accused Rajasthan Royals of match-fixing. Rajasthan Royals strongly responded to this allegation in a letter. The franchise has completely denied the match-fixing claims. Meanwhile, questions are being raised about the real reason behind RCA’s allegations. According to an Indian media report, RCA might have made these claims because it received fewer IPL tickets from Rajasthan Royals.
RCA Discontent Over Fewer Tickets, Alleged Match-Fixing Claims
According to a report published in the Times of India today, the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) has received fewer tickets than usual in the IPL. This could be the main reason behind the dissatisfaction of the state cricket body. The report states that RCA typically receives 1,800 tickets per match from Rajasthan Royals, but this year, they are only getting between 1,000 and 1,200 tickets.
A source within Rajasthan Royals told the Times of India, “We were given clear instructions from the BCCI at the start of the season that since the RCA has been dissolved, we would be working with the Rajasthan State Sports Council (RSSC) to handle everything. The disgruntled members of the RCA ad-hoc committee and their associates are demanding too many tickets, and we are not entertaining them. This is the real reason behind all this drama.”
Rajasthan Royals’ Strong Denial of Match-Fixing Allegations
Rajasthan Royals management has firmly rejected the match-fixing allegations, stating in a letter, “We reject all allegations made by the convener of the ad-hoc committee. Such public statements have not only caused confusion but have also seriously damaged the reputation and credibility of Rajasthan Royals, Royal Multi Sports Private Limited (RMPL), Rajasthan Sports Council, and BCCI.”
A BCCI official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, also dismissed the allegations, saying, “RCA has now been dissolved, and an ad-hoc committee has been formed. With elections approaching, there’s a lot of drama. Everyone wants attention. The BCCI’s anti-corruption unit is working tirelessly to ensure the game stays clean. There is no truth to these allegations.”
Rajasthan Royals’ IPL Performance So Far
Rajasthan Royals have won only two out of their eight matches in the IPL so far. They are currently in eighth place on the points table with 4 points. In their recent match against Lucknow, the team failed to score the required 9 runs in the final over, despite having 6 wickets in hand. Similarly, in their previous match against Delhi, they needed 9 runs in the last over with 7 wickets in hand but couldn’t manage to win. The match ended in a tie, and Rajasthan lost in the Super Over.
