MI vs CSK Today Match Results: Rohit Sharma roared back to form to steer Mumbai Indians annihilate Chennai Super Kings by nine wickets in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Wankhede stadium on April 20. This was MI’s first win against their long-standing rivals in nearly three years. Their previous win over the Yellow Army came in May 12, 2022, when they defeated CSK by five wickets. Since then, four matches had been contested between the two sides, with Chennai Super Kings emerging victorious in all of them, making this win a significant breakthrough for Mumbai Indians.

Rohit Sharma’s fiery 45-ball 76 coupled with Suryakumar Yadav’s lightning 30-ball 68 helped Paltan chase down the 177-run target with 26 balls to spare. MI will next face Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 23 while CSK will also face the same opponent but on April 25.
CSK remained at the bottom of the points table with just four points in eight matches. This was CSK’s sixth defeat in the ongoing season.

Chasing a target of 177 runs, Mumbai Indians suffered an early setback with the loss of Ryan Rickelton for 24 runs. However, the pair of Rohit Sharma, who remained unbeaten on a well-composed 76, and Suryakumar Yadav, who also remained not out with a blistering 68, then forged a dominant 114-run partnership for the second wicket. Rohit Sharma began his innings with aggressive shots during the powerplay but adopted a more measured approach later, allowing Suryakumar Yadav to accelerate the scoring from the other end. Their combined efforts guided the Mumbai Indians to a comfortable nine-wicket victory over MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings.
Having won the toss, Mumbai Indians elected to field first. Chennai Super Kings faced an early setback with the dismissal of Rachin Ravindra for just five runs. However, debutant Ayush Mhatre, a 17-year-old talent, provided an exciting counter-attack, scoring a quickfire 32 runs off 15 deliveries. 1  Despite his promising start, CSK found themselves in a precarious position at 63 runs for the loss of three wickets. At this juncture, the experienced duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Shivam Dube initiated a recovery, forging a crucial 79-run partnership for the fourth wicket, with Dube reaching his half-century.

Shivam Dube was eventually dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah, but Ravindra Jadeja continued his innings until the end, accumulating a valuable 53 runs. His contribution helped Chennai Super Kings reach a total of 176 runs for the loss of five wickets. Jasprit Bumrah was the standout bowler for Mumbai Indians, claiming two wickets in his spell.
Following their victory, Mumbai Indians now have eight points from eight matches played in the tournament, which has resulted in an improvement in their position on the points table, moving them up to sixth place. Conversely, Chennai Super Kings remain at the bottom of the points table, and their net run rate has suffered a significant decline as a consequence of this defeat.
