MI vs CSK Highlights: Rohit Sharma returns to form with an unbeaten 76 and forges an unbroken 114-run partnership for the second wicket with Suryakumar Yadav, who blasts an unbeaten 68 off 30 balls as Mumbai Indians chase down the 177-run target set by Chennai Super Kings with more than four overs to spare. The innings also witnesses Ayush Mhatre make a solid impression on IPL debut with a fiery knock of 32 off 15 balls, collecting four fours and two sixes. Do join us tomorrow for Kolkata Knight Riders’ home game against Gujarat Titans, which Abhishek Nayar’s return to the KKR support staff after spending nearly 11 months as India assistant coach.
Thank you, and good night!
Rohit and Surya remain unbeaten on 76 and 68 respectively, the latter bringing up his half-century in just 26 balls, as Mumbai Indians chase down the 177-run target in just 15.4 overs to collect their third win on the trot and give their Net Run Rate a huge boost.
Rohit’s happy to let Surya take charge towards the end of the chase, with Noor Ahmad getting smashed for 16 in his third over to sign off wicketless for 36 runs and Pathirana getting hit for three sixes in four deliveries in the 16th over.
MI were in a strong position at 93/1 at the halfway mark, but absolutely bulldozed their way by scoring 84 in the next 5.4 overs!
The first one’s a streaky hit towards the fence with SKY getting a thick top edge while attempting a slog-sweep, with the ball beating the fielder towards the third man fence. Surya, however, nails a whip and a sweep in the next two balls in the next two deliveries as Noor, who had starred in CSK’s victory over MI at Chepauk with a haul of 4/18, conceding 15 in his second over.
Matheesha Pathirana is introduced on the other side of the timeout and starts off with a nine-run over, which includes a boundary to Rohit in the second delivery. MI 136/1 after 14; need 41 off 36
Rohit finally converts his positive start at the Wankhede Stadium today, bringing up his first half-century of the season and his 44th overall in the IPL with a single off Ashwin’s bowling a the end of the 12th over! He showed glimpses of regaining his form in his previous outing, against SRH at home, and ends his lean patch against arch-rivals and fellow five-time champions CSK, also at his home ground. The former MI captain has struck two fours and four sixes along the way.
Surya, meanwhile, moves into the 30s in quick time, smashing Jadeja for a six and a four in the left-arm spinner’s third over, in which 13 runs are added to the Mumbai total. MI 112/1 after 12; need 65 off 48
After the pull shot off Overton, Rohit opts for the pick-up shot in Khaleel’s second over, with the ball once again landing in the stands, this time slightly behind square.
Rohit collects two fours in the next three balls – while the first one’s caressed through the gap between cover and extra cover, the ‘Hitman’ nearly perishes in the penultimate ball of the over by chipping it towards mid off.
Thankfully for him, the ball lands in the gap before rolling away for a boundary. MI 35/0 after 3
Boult leaks 16 runs in the final over of the Chennai innings to finish wicketless for 43 runs, with Jadeja smashing the Kiwi left-arm pacer for a six and a four in successive deliveries to bring up his first half-century of the season and only his fourth overall!
CSK struggling at the halfway stage of the innings with just 70 runs on the board for the loss of three wickets. Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja’s fifties, however, has greatly boosted their hopes of completing a season-double against MI.
Brilliant comeback by star pacer Bumrah after conceding 10 in his second over, conceding just three runs while getting the much-needed wicket of the well-set Dube, who is caught by Will Jacks at deep midwicket while attempting to smash a slower ball bowled along fuller length out of the park.
Out walks MS Dhoni at No 6, getting welcomed by the roar that he gets regardless of whether he’s playing at Chepauk or away from home. CSK 145/4 after 17
Left-arm pacer Ashwani Kumar, meanwhile, concedes 24 runs in his second over. The youngster gets smashed for back-to-back maximums by Dube, with Bumrah parrying the ball over the rope at fine leg while attempting to collect a tough catch. Jadeja too shifts gears, collecting a four at the start of the over and ending it with a mighty hit down the ground.
CSK should easily cross 180 from this position and can even try and target 200.
Bumrah concedes 10 in his second over, with Jadeja capitalising on a poor delivery by pulling a short ball down leg towards the fine leg fence. That is followed by Dube collecting two sixes in as many overs, smashing a full delivery from Pandya over deep midwicket before completing fifty of the partnership with Jadeja by whipping a low full toss from Boult over fine leg in the following over.
Pandya and Boult concede 11 and 15 runs respectively in their most recent overs, with Chennai collecting 36 in their last three. CSK 118/3 after 15
Pandya decides to finally introduce Jasprit Bumrah in the ninth over, with the pace spearhead conceding just three singles first up. Will Jacks bowls his first over on the other side of the strategic timeout, conceding just four including a brace to Jadeja in the final delivery.
‘Jaddu’ is currently batting on a run-a-ball 9 while Shivam Dube has collected just two runs in seven deliveries. CSK desperately need a move-on if they are to post a competitive total tonight.
Santner concedes just four singles in the first five balls of his second over, which forces Rasheed to try and attack the left-arm spinner in the final delivery.
The Kiwi spinner gives the ball a bit more air while subtly shortening the length to beat the right-handed batter’s outside edge, resulting in a stumping. CSK 63/3 after 8
It’s been quite the season for youngsters, especially those making their maiden appearance in the world’s biggest T20 league, and Mumbai’s very own Mhatre is the latest of those making a solid impression in the ongoing season.
The 17-year-old opens his account with a single after Ashwani gets Ravindra caught-behind, before smashing the ball down the ground to collect only the second boundary of the innings. That is followed by back-to-back sixes in the next two deliveries, targeting the midwicket and square leg regions.
He doesn’t appear to care about Deepak Chahar’s reputation either as he hits the senior pacer for a four in the following over, with nine runs coming from the fifth over. Can Mhatre convert this promising start into a big score tonight? CSK 43/1 after 5

Over to the ‘El Clasico’ showdown between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings!

Can ‘Thala’ go one step further and bring up his first fifty of the season against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede?
Chennai Super Kings find themselves facing the prospect of failing to reach the playoffs for a second consecutive season – which will be a first for them in the IPL.
And head coach Stephen Fleming has stated that while the team believes in giving players an extended run, they might be forced to make major changes if the five-time champions suffer another defeat or two.
“We’ve got eyes on the season, but we’ve also got a little bit of a look forward, making sure that we are developing players for the future and that might be the second half of the season, if it doesn’t go well over the next couple of games,” Fleming told reporters ahead of CSK’s away game against MI
The ‘Hitman’ has been having a lean run so far in the 18th IPL season, scoring 82 runs in six outings at an average of 13.67, although he has been striking at 143.86.
And in his last outing, he showed glimpses of regaining that form when he smashed 26 off 16 deliveries against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede, smashing three sixes during his stay at the crease.
Can the former MI skipper bat beyond the powerplay for the first time this season and finally bring up a half-century tonight? That took against the team he has had the wood on as Mumbai captain as far as IPL finals are concerned? Stay tuned to find out.

IPL match today, MI vs CSK Highlights: Both Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are having a bad time in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 but when they collide, it’s still the biggest match of any season. The El Clasico of the IPL 2025 is here. The first El Clasico was won by CSK at the Chepauk and now it’s Mumbai’s time to take revenge.
While MI lead the head-to-head 20-18, CSK have been the dominant force of late. MS Dhoni’s CSK have won six out of the last seven matches against MI, including the last four. However, MI are the form team currently, having won their last two matches.
CSK also won their last match but their playoffs hopes are almost over with five defeats from seven matches. They are at the bottom of IPL 2025 points table, while MI are seventh with three wins from as many matches.
A victory on Sunday is needed not just to prove who is superior in this rivalry but a win can also reinvigorate the fortunes of MI or CSK in IPL 2025.
