MLC 2025: After IPL 2025 Failure, THIS RR Batter Hits Back-To-Back Match-Winning Knocks – Cricket.com
Rajasthan Royals (RR) batter Shimron Hetmyer had a torrid Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 where he scored only 239 runs at an average of 21.72 and a strike rate of 145.73 with just one fifty to his kitty. Alongside Dhruv Jurel, he was one of the main reasons behind Royals' defeat in at least four close matches where they should have chased the target down with ease.Â
However, Hetmyer, in Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025, showed that he is still capable of single-handedly winning matches for teams, playing brilliant knocks in back-to-back games to take his team, the Seattle Orcas, over the line in consecutive games and on consecutive days.
After hitting an unbeaten 97 off just 40 balls against MI New York on June 27, the West Indian did amazingly well against the Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAKR), hitting a 26-ball 64 as his team chased down back-to-back 200-plus totals.Â
After winning the toss and opting to field first, Orcas could not control LAKR’s scoring rate as the Knight Riders posted 202/4 in their 20 overs thanks to Andre Russell’s 65 and quick 40s from Saif Badar and Rovman Powell.Â
Chasing 203, the Orcas had a solid 119-run stand between Sayan Jahangir and Aaron Jones for the second wicket. But then they lost three quick wickets and from 119/1, the second became 127/4. It was then that Hetmyer took over and had a 33-run stand with skipper Sikandar Raza contributing 27 runs in that.Â
After Raza’s dismissal, fellow West Indian Kyle Mayers joined the southpaw and the duo added an unbeaten 56 off just 26 balls, winning the match with a ball to spare. Hetmyer was once again the chief contributor, scoring 36 off just 14 balls in the stand.
