Bangkok earthquake: The 33 -storey skyscraper in Bangkok, Thailand collapsed during a 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Myanmar. It was an incomplete building and collapsed in a few seconds. After this, the dust and debris spread in the air and dozens of people got trapped under the rubble. A construction firm -backed firm is being investigated in the case.
According to the news agency AFP, till Sunday 17 people have been confirmed, 32 people are injured and 83 people are still missing. Most of these are laborers working at the construction site of the collapsed building. Search and rescue teams continue to work in scorching heat to find out the survivors. Thermal imaging drones have detected at least 15 people who can still be alive. So far, eight bodies have been removed from the rubble.
Work was going on in building for three years
Bankcock is filled with highly tall buildings and despite this no other building had to face such destruction. Experts and officials are now questioning the structure of the collapsed building. The building belonged to Thailand’s State Accounting Office (SAO) and was under construction for three years at an alleged cost of more than two billion (45 million pounds).
Chinese company has 49 percent stake
Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Chaarnviqul has ordered an immediate inquiry and has given the expert panel seven days to find out the reason for the building collapse. According to a UK Telegraph report, SAO Building was a joint venture between Italian-Thi Development PLC (ITD) and China Railway No. 10 (Thailand) Limited. Out of this, the Chinese company holds 19 percent stake.
The report claimed that China Railway No. 10 Thailand, established in 2018, has worked as a contractor for large infrastructure projects including office buildings, railways and public roads.
