Virat Kohli has been a major draw wherever he plays — be it international cricket or domestic leagues. The Delhi and District Cricket Association had honoured him back in 2019 by naming a pavilion stand after him at the Arun Jaitley Stadium — a rare tribute for an active cricketer.

Cricketing great Sunil Gavaskar recently addressed the topic in a light-hearted manner. Speaking about stadium tributes, Gavaskar said:
“Yeah, it’s a terrific honour, but I don’t know what the DDCA does, whether Virat Kohli gets free tickets.”
“There is a pavilion named after me in Mumbai, but I don’t get any tickets. People still call and say ‘Hello, but there is a stand named after you’ and I say ‘it’s just named after me, but I don’t think it is available,'” said Gavaskar.

Gavaskar’s candid admission offered a behind-the-scenes glimpse into how these honours are more symbolic than practical. While having a stand named after you is a remarkable honour, it doesn’t automatically come with free tickets or reserved seating — even for legends like Gavaskar or Kohli.
