Amid the whispers that Sanju Samson is desperate to leave the Rajasthan Royals ahead of the IPL 2026, some surprising revelations were made that would certainly shock many. According to media reports, Sanju Samson has already asked Rajasthan Royals to release or trade him ahead of the IPL 2026.
Now, a Revsportz journalist, Rohit Juglan, revealed that things were not good between the Rajasthan Royals team management and Sanju Samson during the IPL 2025 season. The journalist claimed that Samson was denied the chance to captain the Royals in the first three matches in Guwahati despite being available to play as an impact player.
The sources argued, “If he could play as an impact player, he could have led as captain too.” It is being said that the RR team “management put pressure on Samson to step aside and asked him to stay away from the captaincy”, as they made it clear to him that they wanted to hand the reins to Riyan Parag.

So, the “captaincy” was the main reason behind the rift in the RR camp, and there was tension throughout the season. Even in RR’s clash against Delhi Capitals, Samson was spotted away from the main dugout discussions.
This was just the opposite of how senior players like Rohit Sharma, who was also playing as an impact player in several games, were deeply involved in MI’s strategy.
The behavior was out of character for Samson, which already highlighted a picture of deeper issues brewing behind the scenes, and that has now exploded in front of the world. As revealed by the RR sources, the franchise is not in favor of continuing with Samson as captain in the IPL.
And that’s the main reason the Indian wicketkeeper-batter wants to leave the franchise. He and the RR team management are not on the same page in the planning, strategy, and how the team has been performing for the past three seasons; they want a fresh leader to change their fortune.

Well, the Chennai Super Kings are keen on signing Samson, but the journalist revealed that the Kolkata Knight Riders might be the more “affordable” and strategic fit for the Kerala star. KKR are in the hunt for a wicketkeeper, captain, and top-order batter, and Samson checks all the boxes.
Even KL Rahul’s name has been mentioned, but both he and his franchise, Delhi Capitals, are reportedly unwilling to part ways. In IPL 2025, Samson scored 285 runs in nine innings with a strike rate of 140.39, but he missed 5 games due to his injury.
Samson’s contract with the RR team runs until 2027, and the franchise is looking at different trade possibilities for the next season. But so far, no other team has made an offer that the Royals find good enough, and even CSK is not ready to trade their key players for the Kerala star.
