The IPL 2025 has breached many records, with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) ending their 18-year drought to win their maiden IPL title and dethroning the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in both brand and business value rankings with a staggering brand value of US$269.0 million. As a reflection of the IPL’s increasing popularity, the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s auction of four associate-sponsor positions—My11Circle, Angel One, RuPay, and CEAT—yielded ₹1,485 crores, a 25% rise over the earlier cycle. In the meantime, the Tata Group renewed its title-sponsorship involvement up to 2028 in a rich five-year agreement worth US$300 million (₹2,500 crores).
In a remarkable turn of events in the valuations of IPL franchises, inaugural winners Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have jumped to the number one position with a brand value of US$269 million from US$227 million last year. Mumbai Indians moved up to the second spot (from fourth position last year) with a valuation of US$242 million (US$204 million in 2024). At the same time, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fell to third with a brand value of US$235 million, just modestly higher than in 2024 (US$231 million), after a poor season with MS Dhoni taking the captaincy mid-season. Punjab Kings (PBKS) reported the strongest year-on-year growth, with a 39.6% increase in brand value through 2024, closely followed by Lucknow Super Giants, which improved by over 34%.
Virat Kohli, who was retained as a senior batter for the team, emerged as the top scorer for them as well. The appointment of young Rajat Patidar as the captain resulted in favour of the Bengaluru-based franchise. Kohli amassed a total of 657 runs and was also the third-highest scorer of the season, behind Gujarat Titans’ (GT) Sai Sudarshan and Mumbai Indians’ (MI) Suryakumar Yadav. Shreyas Iyer, who scored a total of 604 runs in the season, finds himself in the 6th place in the top scorers and the highest for his team.
