Punjab Kings is one of the five teams to feature in all 17 IPL seasons played so far, but only once (in 2014) did they manage to finish as the table toppers. In the 2014 season, George Bailey-led PBKS, however, failed to lift the title and had to settle as runners-up after failing to defend the target of 200 runs in the final against Kolkata Knight Riders.
In IPL 2025, star Indian middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer will captain the Punjab Kings. The 30-year-old right-handed batter from Mumbai, who led KKR to the IPL 2024 title win, was signed for Rs 26.75 crore by PBKS in the IPL 2025 mega auction.
In Punjab Kings, Iyer will reunite with Ricky Ponting, who also joined the franchise as head coach after parting ways with Delhi Capitals.

In addition to having Iyer and Ponting, PBKS will be boosted by the return of legendary Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell. Maxwell played a big role in the team’s run to the final of the IPL in the 2014 season.
PBKS, which failed to qualify for the playoffs in the last 10 seasons, will open its campaign in IPL 2025 on Tuesday (March 25) against Gujarat Titans. The high-voltage match between the two teams is scheduled to take place at Narendra Modi Stadium.
