RCB Can Still Get Knocked Out Of IPL 2025 — Here’s How – Cricket.com
As the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) returned after an enforced week-long break, all Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) needed was a win against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to seal a spot in the playoffs.
However, not for the first time, RCB’s home town of Bengaluru proved to be a disadvantage as the KKR clash got rained off, meaning both sides walked away with a point each.
The point helped RCB move to the top of the IPL 2025 table but still, despite being top after 12 games, RCB could still potentially miss out on the playoffs. Here’s how.
As things stand, RCB are on 17 points. In any other season, this would have been enough for qualification, but this is a one-of-a-kind season, so RCB still need one more point to confirm qualification.
So, if
> RCB lose their remaining two games
> MI beat DC and PBKS
> PBKS lose to MI and DC but beat RR
> DC lose to MI but beat GT and PBKS
> GT lose to DC but win one of the other two games (vs LSG & CSK)
Then GT and MI will finish in the top two, and PBKS, DC and RCB will all be tied at 17 points. It will then come down to NRR, meaning RCB could miss out on the playoffs due to NRR. As it stands, RCB have a better NRR than both DC and PBKS, but it’s pretty close between these three teams, so things could get pretty interesting.
The good news for RCB is that, even if their clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on May 23 in Bengaluru gets washed out, they will progress to the playoffs.
