Mayank Agarwal walks in next at number 3, replacing Phil Salt.
1.4: Kyle Jamieson to Phil Salt, OUT! CAUGHT! Nerves of steel yet again from the Punjab skipper and Kyle Jamieson strikes gold in his very first over.
1.3: Kyle Jamieson to Phil Salt, Nips back in from outside off, Salt looks to defend but gets a thick inside edge onto hisn pads. Searches frantically for the ball, before realizing that it is past the stumps on the leg side.
1.2: Kyle Jamieson to Phil Salt, FOUR! Up and over! Salt is off to a flier in this final. A short ball, outside off, Phil Salt looks to pull it over mid on. For a second, it seems like he did not connect it well but got enough elevation to clear the man in the ring. One bounce and into the fence.
1.1: Kyle Jamieson to Virat Kohli, On a length, outside off, Virat Kohli gets off the mark straightaway, opening the face of his bat and guiding the ball behind point for a single.
This season, Kohli averages 101.7 in the Powerplay. That’s an amazing record. PBKS would want him out as early as possible. Kyle Jamieson to share the new ball.
0.6: Arshdeep Singh to Phil Salt, Much better line from the southpaw. Arshdeep sees Salt taking a couple of steps down the track and bangs in a bumper across the middle stump. Salt sways away from the line and it stays 13 runs off the first over.
0.5: Arshdeep Singh to Phil Salt, FOUR! Too aggressive from Arshdeep, and just like the last game, he’s getting battered on the short balls. Too short and just down leg, Salt is able to just swivel on his toes and pull it well fine of the fielder at fine leg for a boundary. 13 off the over with a ball to go.
0.4: Arshdeep Singh to Phil Salt, Arshdeep keeps it full and straight, swinging in, Salt clips it off the legs through the vast gap at mid-wicket and picks up a couple of runs more.
0.3: Arshdeep Singh to Phil Salt, SIX! JUST OVER! The first big hit of the night. A short ball, around waist height, down the leg side, Phil Salt picks the length in a trice and pulls it over long leg. He does not go full throttle and perhaps that is why, does not get full elevation. Vyshak Vijaykumar at long leg waits for the ball to come and then leaps, but the ball just goes over.
0.2: Arshdeep Singh to Phil Salt, The Oscars have begun. Full, outside off, swinging in, Phil drives it on the bounce to Marcus Stoinis at short cover. Stoinis fields and gets the crowd going, celebrating as if the catch was taken.
0.1: Arshdeep Singh to Phil Salt, This one swings the other way. Salt gets bat to ball and watchfully pushes it towards cover.
0.1: Arshdeep Singh to Phil Salt, WIDE. The scoreboard starts moving even before a ball is legally bowled. Nervous start by Arshdeep, full and swinging down the leg side, Phil Salt misses his flick. Shreyas Iyer appeals for a catch and looks at the bowler for a review but no one is interested.
Time for India’s national anthem. The anthem has been sung and it is time now to get the big game underway. Shreyas Iyer semes to have bottles of ice inbuilt in his body but there will be some nerves somewhere in that machine. And that’s true for all the players who would be playing this game. The huddle is completed by PBKS and out walk the two umpires. And now, to a loud roar from the crowd, Virat Kohli walks out followed by a man who has just updated his life status – proud papa Phil Salt strides out behind him. And it will be Salt to take strike. Expectedly, it will be his nemeis, Arshdeep Singh, to start off with the new ball. Let’s go!
No real surprises for either team. Tim David was in doubt for the final and anyone who knows Virat Kohli personally, will understand that anyone who is not 100 percent fit, should not be playing the game. Liam Livingstone is a big question mark but the team will hope that he comes good tonight. There is an injury concern in the Punjab camp as well, with Yuzvendra Chahal still not 100 percent fit after a hand injury. He played Qualifier 2 through the injury being semi fit and has backed himself to do so again tonight.Â
The captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, RAJAT PATIDAR, admits that he also wanted to bowl first. But quickly adds that the surface looks hard and his batters will try to put a good total and keep Punjab under pressure. On the mood in the RCB camp, Patidar says that till now, they have played good cricket and calls it JUST another game. So wants his side to continue playing good cricket. On the opportunity of winning a final after featuring for the 4th time, Rajat says that it is indeed a big stage, but stresses again that it is just another away game for his side. Adds that everyone has played his best game till now and affirms that tonight too, they will try their best. On the surface, RP feels that it looks very good. Expects it to be flat. Knows that the soil in use is a mixed one – combining red and black so predicts that it will be good for batting. Patidar too, informs that RCB are going in with an unchanged side from their previous game.
The skipper of Punjab Kings, SHREYAS IYER, stresses that he wants to give positive signs to his mind and body. Calls this an amazing day, in presence of an electrifying crowd and states that all the players have to do is come here and cherish this. On how are the players coping after the thriling win in Qualifier 2, Iyer says that the guys are in brilliant shape. Stresses that the talk in the dressing room is that the more composure you keep, the better you perform. On the nerves for this final, Shreyas takes a while, looks at the dugout and then shakes his head. Says that the nerves are absolutely fine. Understands that this is not JUST another game, it is of course a final and affirms that Punjab are going to play it like a final. Expects this to be a tremendous game, but asserts that they are going to trust in their abilities. On the team news, SI informs that PBKS are going in with the same team that featured in Qualifier 2.
