Rohit Sharma Achieves Twin Milestones in IPL 2025 – AP7AM
Mumbai Indians’ star batter and ‘Hitman’ Rohit Sharma etched his name in the record books with two rare milestones during the IPL 2025 season. In a thrilling Eliminator match against Gujarat Titans held last night at Mullanpur, Rohit became only the second player in the tournament’s history to cross both 7000 runs and 300 sixes.
Heading into this high-stakes knockout game, Rohit Sharma had been averaging just 15 this season. However, he turned things around dramatically in this crucial encounter. Taking an aggressive approach right from the start, Rohit smashed a blistering 81 runs off just 50 balls. His innings featured four massive sixes and seven boundaries, leading Mumbai Indians to a formidable total of 228 runs for the loss of five wickets in the allotted overs.
With this performance, Rohit became the second batsman after Virat Kohli to score 7000 runs in IPL history. He reached this landmark in the 9th over of the match, hitting a towering six off Rashid Khan’s bowling.
Rohit also had strokes of fortune during his innings. On the final delivery of the second over, bowled by Prasidh Krishna, Coetzee dropped a straightforward catch when Rohit was on just three runs. In the following over, a delivery from Mohammad Siraj took the edge of Rohit’s bat, but wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis failed to grab the chance. Making the most of these opportunities, the 38-year-old batter dominated the proceedings, especially taking control against Gujarat spinners Sai Kishore and Rashid Khan.
By hitting four sixes in the match, Rohit Sharma also surpassed the 300-sixes mark in the IPL. He became only the second cricketer to achieve this feat after ‘Universal Boss’ Chris Gayle, who has 357 sixes to his name. Rohit now has a total of 302 sixes, while Virat Kohli trails him in third place with 291 sixes.
