Vaibhav Suryavanshi turned quite a few eyes during the latest edition of the Indian Premier League. The discussions around him started even before he played his debut IPL match. This was because he was the youngest player to register for the auction in the tournament’s history.
A 14-year-old getting a ₹1.1 Cr contract surprised many people. However, when he got a chance to justify his price tag and IPL contract, he did not disappoint. He got an opportunity to open for the Rajasthan Royals after their skipper, Sanju Samson, suffered an injury.
In the seven matches that he featured in, Suryavanshi scored 252 runs at a strike rate of 206.56 and an average of 36.00. He scored a destructive century in the tournament and became the youngest centurion ever in the history of the tournament.
During the Grand tournament, Suryavanshi grabbed attention for his batting; he has now made headlines for a different reason. Notably, the young Southpaw is part of the India Under-19 side that is currently touring England. The two teams are currently playing a U19 50-over game at the County Ground in Hove, United Kingdom.
In a video that has been posted on social media, Suryavanshi was seen rolling his arms overduring the 23rd over of the English innings. He bowled right arm-off spin and maintained decent areas. So far, he has bowled only a single over and has conceded two runs without picking up a wicket.
The modern format of the game prefers multi-dimensional players. Looking at Suryavanshi’s bowling, it feels like the Southpaw is trying to hone his skills and bring more diversity, depth, and dynamism to the team he represents.
Notably, another IPL 2025 breakout breakout star, Ayush Mhatre, is also part of this India U19 squad. Infact, the right-handed batter who played for CSK in the latest edition of the tournament is the skipper of the side.
