Sunrisers Hyderabad's Mohammed Shami (R) celebrates after taking the wicket of Chennai Super Kings' Shaik Rasheed during the Indian Premier League (IPL) match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on April 25, 2025.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have reportedly refused to release their veteran India pacer Mohammed Shami who was not at his best in the previous edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 mini-auction. Shami who was roped in for Rs 10 crore in the mega auction has been in good form of late and proved his fitness to Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee via performances in ongoing Ranji Trophy 2025-26.
As per a report by Cricbuzz, SRH got a few trade offers for the Bengal pacer but they have declined all of them. Also, they are reluctant to release him as well.Â
In the previous edition, Shami managed to take just six wickets from nine games at an average of 56.16. His economy rate was as high as 11.23 runs per over. The last time Shami’s economy rate was in double digits in a season, he played for Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 2018 edition. Also, this was the first time since 2018, he could not take wickets in double digits.
In red-ball cricket, Shami has been in red-hot form. He registered a five-wicket haul against Gujarat in a winning cause. He took three wickets in the first innings of the same match. In Bengal’s campaign opener, he claimed seven wickets in Bengal’s eight-wicket win at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. It was also reported that newly-appointed selector and former pacer RP Singh had a length conversation with him on the sidelines. It is yet to be seen whether he makes the squad for two-Test series against South Africa, starting on November 14.Â
Earlier, there were reports that SRH may release their wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan. He was roped in for Rs 11.25 crore in the mega auction. TOI reported that his former franchise Mumbai Indians (MI), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) are keen to acquire the 27-year-old’s services. However, nothing is finalised.
