‘Time to MOVE..!!’: Sanju Samson’s cryptic post sparks transfer buzz to Chennai Super Kings – Mathrubhumi English
Sanju Samson`s cryptic Instagram post fuels rumours of a move from Rajasthan Royals to Chennai Super Kings.
Cricketer Sanju Samson has sparked a fresh wave of speculation about a potential Indian Premier League (IPL) team switch after posting a cryptic message on Instagram. The Rajasthan Royals captain shared a photo of himself and his wife, Charulatha, crossing a road, accompanied by the caption: “Time to MOVE..!!”
What caught fans’ attention was not just the caption but the visual—a yellow line on the road that some believe symbolises Chennai Super Kings' iconic colour. The post quickly triggered speculation that Samson could be hinting at a move to CSK, possibly as a successor to the legendary MS Dhoni.
The timing of the post added further fuel to the rumours. Both Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings had underwhelming 2025 seasons, prompting discussions of major changes ahead of the next IPL cycle.
Rajasthan Royals, led by Samson, finished ninth on the table and failed to make the playoffs. An injury kept Samson out of several matches, during which youngster Riyan Parag stepped in as captain. Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who replaced Samson in the XI, impressed with strong performances, giving RR something to build on.
Chennai Super Kings had an even more disappointing run, ending their season at the bottom of the table with just four wins from 14 games. It was their worst finish in IPL history.
Sanju Samson’s IPL journey
Samson began his IPL career with the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2012 but did not make an appearance for the franchise. He rose to prominence when Rajasthan Royals signed him ahead of the 2013 season. He played for RR until 2015, then joined the Delhi Daredevils for two seasons before returning to Rajasthan in the 2018 mega-auction. The Royals retained him again in the 2022 and 2025 auctions.
He was named captain in 2021 and led RR to the final in 2022—their first since the inaugural 2008 championship. However, the team hasn’t reached the final since. As captain, Samson has led in 65 matches, with a near-even record of 33 wins and 32 losses.
With the bat, Samson remains RR’s top performer. He has scored 4,027 runs—more than any other player in the franchise’s history. Jos Buttler is second with 3,055 runs.
Samson’s early IPL success earned him a place in India’s national side during the 2014 England tour. He made his international debut in 2015 and is currently part of India’s T20I setup.
