Pali:- Jawai dam is no less than a boon for people and farmers of three districts including Pali. Today it is the largest dam in western Rajasthan. The Jawai Dam, which quenched the thirst of 900 villages, was constructed by the former Maharaja Ummed Singh of Jodhpur when Pali and Jalore districts suffered heavy losses due to floods in Jawai river in 1903. After which it came to the mind of former Maharaja Ummed Singh that this dam would be constructed and then this work started in the year 1946 and work was completed in 1957. After which till date, along with quenching the thirst of Pali residents, water is also provided to farmers from here for irrigation.
Today 900 villages trust this dam
Talking to Local-18, Kanaram said that this is the biggest dam in western Rajasthan. This dam does the work of quenching the thirst of Pali residents. When the season of rain is a season, it is quite well filled with dams. This dam does the work of quenching the thirst of 900 villages of many districts including Pali. Also, water is provided to farmers from here for irrigation. Along with this, the same dam is also done to quench the thirst of the nearby wild life areas.
This dam is the lifeline of three districts
Apart from Shivganj city of Sirohi, it acts like a lifeline of Jalore and Pali districts. That is why every year every village and every family pray that the dam becomes full. Although despite the heavy rains, the dam is not full till now, but its water benefits the farmers well. At the same time, this biggest dam of western Rajasthan was ready in the year 1956 for 60 lakhs.
This is the capacity of the dam
Jawibandh can be called the lifeline of Jalore district. Pali district also benefits this much. Hundreds of farmers get irrigation water from here. Apart from this, Sumerpur-Shivganj has also started getting its benefits. There is also a plan to provide water from this dam for drinking water in about a dozen villages of Sumerpur tehsil area. A pipeline has also been installed for this. Bandaka water inward area is 787 sq km and full filling water level is 312 meters and overflow level is 308.50 meters. Its average water arrival from its associate Sai Dam is 51 MCFT and the sluce seal level is 294.75 meters and the maximum level of the main pucca dam is 315.56 meters. The length of its canal is 23 km.
Construction went on for 11 years
The construction work of the dam went on for 11 years. This dam could be completed after such a long time tireless efforts. The foundation stone of the dam was laid on 13 May 1946 by Umaid Singh, the former King of Jodhpur at eleven thirty in the morning and it was completed in 1956.
