Welcome to Sportstar’s LIVE coverage of the Women’s Premier League 2025 final between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians on Saturday.
Shikha to bowl the final over. Starts with a dot. FOUR! Sanskriti takes a big swing at it and it takes one bounce over deep sweeper cover fence. Quick running by the batters who make use of the overthrow. Amanjot on strike now. FOUR! Kapp manages to stop the ball before the ropes but cannot get back into the field to stop the ball from touching the cushions. One ball remains. 149 on the board, 150 to win.
SIX! Kamalini too can play the big shots! Enough power on the swipe to get it over deep midwicket. Tight fielding keeps them to singles. Kamalini at the striker’s end and that’s OUT! She stepped out and tried to play a big shot but was beaten by the ball. Sarah Bryce is quick to take the bails off.
G Kamalini st †Bryce b Shree Charani 10 (7)
Sanskriti Gupta is off the mark with a single. FOUR! Amanjot lofts the ball over Shafali at mid off to find the fence.
OUT! It’s the big wicket of Harmanpreet and Sutherland strikes! Looks to go inside out but finds the deep sweeper cover fielder. Not the cleanest of catches but Kapp manages to hold on to the ball.
Harmanpreet Kaur c Kapp b Sutherland 66 (44)
Amanjot Kaur is off the mark with a glance down fine for two. A couple of singles taken. Kamalini almost lost her wicket with a heave into the off side but the ball landed safe. Restricts the batters to singles. A huge over for DC.
Charani continues. Harmanpreet punches towards deep cover for a run. Young Kamalini on strike. Off the mark with a cheeky single past the bowler to get off the mark. The slow fielding allows a second to be run, Kamalini shared back to the bowler’s end. A single again and she’s back on strike.
Jonassen to Harmanpreet, SIX! Gets down on one knee and hammers it over deep square leg. Tries to reverse sweep but misses, one bye. OUT! Kerr throws her wicket away, holes out straight to SHafali at mid off. Wickets are starting to tumble at the other end.
Amelia Kerr c Shafali Verma b Jonassen 2 (3)
S Sajana lasts only two balls, OUT! Trapped in front and umpire is convinced. Harmanpreet is the one who asks for the review but it goes in vain. Umpire’s call stands and that’s two wickets in the over.
Sajeevan Sajana lbw b Jonassen 0 (2)
Charani returns. FOUR! Drifitng down leg and NSB pulls it down to deep square leg fence. Lofted up high but not enough pace on it. Lands safe. Harmanpreet on strike, worked away for a single. Wide and runs away to the boundary line, free runs only helping MII. Team 100 up. OUT! Probably the most uncharacteristic way for NSB to walk back! Great catch by Minnu at square leg to put an end to a dangerous partnership. Charani picks up a crucial wicket.
Nat Sciver-Brunt c Mani b Shree Charani 30 (28)
Amelia Kerr is the new batter, off the mark and retains strike.
Sutherland continues. Swing and a miss for NSB. That’s three dots this over in as many balls. Make that four in four. Whacks it into the deep midwicket and a fit to continue Harmanpreet is back on strike. FOUR! Full toss and put away with ease. Harmanpreet pounds it to deep cover ropes.
Timeout, and this time DC will have plenty to ponder on.
Minnu Mani into the attack. FOUR! Harmanpreet is in full control! Finds the gap between deep mid wicket and deep square leg. And again! FOUR to bring up her 50! Pierces the space between deep midwicket and long on. A couple of singles and a dot to end the over.
Looks like Haramanpreet had to get treated for a case of cramps between the over, hence the delay.
Shikha welcomed back with a FOUR! Timed to perfection and lofted over extra cover. Goes the same way again but fielder in the deep collects the ball, single taken. NSB diligently takes a single on the next and the skipper is back on strike. Another big swing at it but deep point fielder keeps it to one. FOUR to end the over! NSB punishes the full toss behind extra cover.
Jonassen back. Squeezing Harmanpreet for space. But the skipper rocks back to free up her arms and slice it past point for FOUR! Tossed up wide and lofted over extra cover for another FOUR! Make that three-in-a-row! Targets an empty deep cover region and fielder cannot get to it. Big over for MI, 13 runs again.
SIX! Have the batters had enough of the singles game? Harmanpreet with great wrist work to launch one over deep backward square leg ropes for the first maximum. A midfield at backward points lets them take a single. One more single and skipper back on strike. FOUR! Harmanpreet with a cracking drive between mid off and extra cover. 13 runs off the over.
N Charani handed the ball. NSB finds one run at long on. Harmanpreet gives back strike to NSB who finds a FOUR! Holds the posture firm after slicing it towards backward point. The easy singles look a bit more difficult now. NSB having to stretch and dive to save herself from Jemimah’s lethal throw. FOUR to end the over! Lofted over covers to the ropes.
Jess Jonassen into the attack. Harmanpreet paddles it low, towards deep backward square leg for a run. NSB knocks one to long on and Harmanpreet goes the same way again. Still just a single. NSB drives towards deep mid wicket. Two more singles and that’s six runs run.
That’s 500 WPL runs this season for NSB!
The English all-rounder scripted history during the WPL 2025 final between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians at the Brabourne Stadium on Saturday.
Kapp to bowl out. NSB cannot get past Sutherland at mid-on who dives to her right and doesn’t allow more than a single. Harmanpreet drives towards extra cover for a single. NSB has to stay firm in her crease at the end of the over.
Timeout.
Annabel Sutherland replaces Shikha. Harmanpreet unable to get off strike . Struck high on the pads but looked like it was going down leg. FOUR! Short and wide, gets on top of the ball and punches it through point. A boundary and a wide off the over to end the PowerPlay.
The second lowest PowerPlay total for MI.. 20 runs
FOUR! Over the top, and Yastika makes use of the outside off line to cover ropes. OUT! Kapp does it again! Yastika tries to go over covers but couldn’t get under it. Jemimah Rodrigues lunges forward to complete a safe catch at cover.
Yastika Bhatia c Rodrigues b Kapp 8 (14)
Harmanpreet Kaur walks in. Off the mark with a nervy single.
Shikha continues. Yastika cuts towards deep point for a single. Full toss to new batter Nat Sciver-Brunt, who pounds it to mid on for a run. Off the mark. Yastika cuts into the cover region for one. NSB runs two on the last ball and she becomes the first batter in WPL history to get to 1000 runs! What a season for the MI all-rounder!
Kapp continues. Matthews gets the ball to glide to deep backward point for a single. Tries to drive down straight but the field was tightly set in place. WAS THAT A CHANCE? Comes back straight at Kapp who gets a hand on it but couldn’t hold on. They take a single. OUT! Kapp strangles and strikes early for DC! That stump-line being the crucial factor, as she castles Matthews. Just an inside edge that takes the bails off.
Hayley Matthews b Kapp 3 (10)
Shikha Pandey from the other end. Getting the ball to swing inwards immediately. Making Matthews crunch for space. Works it to mid wicket for one run. Pitched on leg and shapes away from Yastika’s bat. She cannot find a run beyond and that’s a one-run over.
Hayley Matthews and Yastika Bhatia open for MI. Marizanne Kapp to start the proceedings. Yastike faces the first ball, dabs it into the on side. Puts the second one away to deep backward square leg for a single to get off the mark. Gets the ball to just shape away from Matthews who watches it go by. Drifting back into the stump line and Matthews forced to defend. Well stopped by the cover field to save three.
Both teams have made it out to the field for the national anthem.
