Australian cricketers playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 are looking to leave India following the tournament’s suspension due to rising tensions between India and Pakistan. Reports from Australian media suggest many players are trying to fly home or relocate to Dubai as soon as possible, with departures expected as early as Saturday.
The uncertainty grew after Thursday’s match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala was called off. Several players were reportedly shaken by the situation and expressed concern for their safety amid escalating regional unrest.
There are currently 15 Australian players in the IPL, including Test captain Pat Cummins. Former skippers Ricky Ponting and Justin Langer are also present in India, serving as coaches for different teams. Their future plans depend on how the situation develops in the coming days.
Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially suspended the IPL season after an emergency meeting. Sources say the board discussed relocating matches but ultimately decided that continuing was not appropriate while the country faces possible conflict.
So far, 58 matches have been played in IPL 2025, with twelve group-stage games and the playoffs remaining. These were scheduled across major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Kolkata, but are now in limbo. The season was originally set to conclude on May 25.
Although the BCCI has not set a new date for resuming the tournament, officials are considering an August–September window. However, this could affect India’s tour of Bangladesh and the Asia Cup, both of which are now at risk due to the ongoing diplomatic crisis.
