Bad News For Mumbai Indians Ahead Of IPL 2025: Star Seamer Jasprit Bumrah To Miss First Few Matches Of Upcoming Season – Republic World

Indian Premier League: Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Mumbai Indians faced a setback as their star seamer Jasprit Bumrah will be missing the first few matches of the upcoming season. Bumrah is still continuing to recover from the back injury that has kept him out of the field since January, according to ESPNcricinfo. The 31-year-old can only join the MI squad after getting a clearance from the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
As per ESPNcricinfo, Bumrah will join the Mumbai-based franchise in the first week of April, which means he will miss Mumbai Indians’ first three games of the 18th season of the T20 tournament. MI’s first three games of IPL 2025 will be against Chennai Super Kings on March 23, Gujarat Titans on March 29, and Kolkata Knight Riders on March 31.

The star Indian pacer sustained a back injury on the second day of the Sydney Test during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-2025 on January 4. Following that he has stayed away from the field. He was not even part of India’s Champions Trophy 2025 squad.
While announcing India’s Champions Trophy 2025 squad, the Men’s Selection Committee Chairman Ajit Agarkar said that Bumrah was asked by BCCI’s medical team to take rest for at least five weeks from the Sydney Test. Initially, he was included in the provisional squad, but later Harshit Rana replaced him in the 15-member Men in Blue squad.

The 31-year-old Indian pacer has played 133 IPL matches, picking 165 wickets at an economy rate of 7.30. In IPL 2024, Bumrah appeared in 13 games and bagged 20 wickets.
The upcoming season of the cash-rich tournament will begin on March 22. The opening match will be between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the iconic Eden Gardens. While Mumbai Indians will kick off their campaign on March 23 against Chennai Super Kings.
