IPL 2026 Trade Window: The IPL 2026 trade window has just turned explosive. In what could become one of the most high-profile transfers in Indian Premier League history, Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are reportedly in advanced talks over a blockbuster player swap involving Sanju Samson, Ravindra Jadeja, and Sam Curran.
According to multiple reports, including Times of India and ESPNcricinfo, CSK could acquire Sanju Samson, while Jadeja and Curran are expected to move the other way to Rajasthan Royals – a deal that could reshape both franchises ahead of IPL 2026.
If finalized, this would be one of the most significant trades since the IPL’s inception, involving three marquee players who have been core members of their respective teams.
Sources have revealed that both franchises have already spoken to the players involved, but neither RR nor CSK has confirmed the development publicly.
Under IPL’s trading rules, both teams must first send an Expression of Interest (EOI) to the IPL Governing Council, listing the players they intend to trade. Once the players provide written consent, the franchises can proceed to finalize terms. The agreement will then be officially ratified by the IPL governing body.
While the discussions are ongoing, insiders suggest that all three players are open to the move with Samson reportedly seeking a fresh start after over a decade with Rajasthan Royals.

Sanju Samson, who has represented RR for 11 seasons, is not just their captain but also their leading run-scorer. Since rejoining the franchise in 2018, he has evolved into one of the IPL’s most consistent batters, scoring over 4000 runs, including 25 fifty-plus scores and a highest of 124.
Samson’s leadership tenure has seen highs and lows – he led RR to the IPL 2022 final, but a string of injuries and form issues saw the team finish ninth in IPL 2025. Following the season, Samson reportedly asked to be released, expressing a desire for “a new challenge.”
If he joins CSK, he could emerge as the long-term successor to MS Dhoni, especially given Dhoni’s advancing age and the franchise’s focus on a smooth leadership transition.
For Ravindra Jadeja, the move would mark a return to where it all began. The allrounder made his IPL debut for Rajasthan Royals in 2008 under Shane Warne, even lifting the trophy in the league’s inaugural season.
Since joining CSK in 2012, Jadeja has been an indispensable part of the team’s success – contributing to three IPL titles and delivering countless match-winning performances. He has played 254 IPL matches, claimed 143 wickets, and scored over 2,500 runs. His heroics in the 2023 final against Gujarat Titans – where he hit the winning runs – remain one of IPL’s most iconic moments.
However, reports suggest Jadeja’s relationship with CSK management has cooled slightly after his short-lived captaincy stint in 2022, where he struggled to balance leadership and performance.
As for Sam Curran, this could be another big move in a career that has already seen dramatic turns. After stints with Punjab Kings and CSK, the English allrounder was bought back by Chennai in 2025 for Rs 2.4 crore. But he had a below-par season, taking just one wicket in five matches.
A move to Rajasthan could give Curran a fresh platform to regain form and reestablish himself as one of the premier overseas allrounders in the league.
Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif recently suggested that MS Dhoni might be the driving force behind the potential trade. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Kaif said Dhoni’s long-term plan could be to groom Sanju Samson as the future leader of CSK, possibly handing him the reins midway through IPL 2026.
“Dhoni’s vision is clear – he’s willing to part ways with Jadeja to bring in a future captain. Samson fits that role perfectly,” Kaif noted.
With Dhoni expected to turn 44 next year, the CSK management is reportedly keen on ensuring a smooth transition of leadership, just as the franchise did successfully when Ruturaj Gaikwad was elevated as vice-captain.
If this triple-player trade goes through, it will rank among the biggest in IPL history, not only for the caliber of players involved but also for its potential to redefine team strategies.
While fans are divided – some excited, others emotional about Jadeja’s possible exit from CSK – one thing is certain: IPL 2026 is shaping up to be one of the most dramatic seasons yet.
