The Indian Premier League 2025 is set to kick off on March 22. Organized by the BCCI, this edition will be the 18th season of the world’s most lucrative franchise-based tournament.

Defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders will take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the opening match at Eden Gardens. Like last season — the 10 teams are split into two groups — a structure designed to balance the fixtures and ensure a competitive league phase.

Each team will play the four other teams in its group twice — both at home and away. They will also face one designated opponent from the other group twice while playing the remaining four teams from the opposite group just once.

This format keeps the total number of league matches at 70. The league matches will be followed by four playoff games and then culminate in the final.
The league phase will run until May 18, featuring 74 matches at 13 venues. Three franchises — Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals — will split their home games between two cities each.

The top four teams at the end of the league stage will advance to the playoffs. The first two teams in the standings will compete in Qualifier 1 on May 20 in Hyderabad, with the winner securing a direct ticket to the final in Kolkata on May 25.
Meanwhile, the third and fourth-placed teams will face off in the Eliminator, and the winner will play the loser of Qualifier 1 in Qualifier 2, determining the second finalist.
The IPL 2025 schedule features 12 double-header days. Afternoon matches will start at 3:30 PM IST and the evening games will begin at 7:30 PM IST.
