Forget Danny Ings, Wrexham may finally sign ‘brilliant’ 156-goal striker Phil Parkinson loves – The Wrexham Insider

Wrexham are once again being linked with a player whom Phil Parkinson has been trying to sign for some time now.
Ryan Hardie arrived at the Racecourse Ground last month in a £700,000 deal from Plymouth Argyle.
Hardie has already improved Wrexham’s striker ranks, scoring on his debut last week, but the club have been eyeing more centre-forward reinforcements.
Jamie Vardy signing for the Red Dragons seems unlikely despite the Englishman still being without a club following his Leicester City exit.
Meanwhile, Wrexham have missed out on Danny Ings, who is now expected to join Championship rivals Middlesbrough after previously having talks with the Welsh club.
Now, a new, or rather old name, is once again being mooted for a transfer to the Racecourse Ground.
Wrexham held talks to sign Michael Smith during the 2024 summer transfer window.
A deal could not be reached, however, with a record move for Modou Faal instead following.
It was then shared in January that Wrexham wanted to sign Smith, and club chief Shaun Harvey visited Hillsborough to try and get a move done.
Again, though, the striker, who has 156 senior goals throughout his career, remained in Yorkshire.
 Sheffield Wednesday extended Smith’s contract in June, keeping him on their books for another year.
But a summer exit for the attacker is still seemingly on the cards during the current window.
The Star names Blackpool and MK Dons as new clubs looking at Smith, while saying Wrexham’s interest remains.
It remains to be seen how advanced Wrexham are when it comes to signing Smith.
But @1867News on X/Twitter, who has often been reliable in the past when it comes to all things Wednesday, has said the player has received an offer ‘too good to be true’.

Whether that is Wrexham or not is not mentioned, but it’s hard to see Blackpool or MK Dons being able to offer such a deal.
Smith was called ‘brilliant’ by one ex-manager. He ended last season with eight goals and four assists in the Championship.
