The IPL mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia finally concluded after 2 days. 182 players were sold in the auction, including 62 foreign players. Right to Match was used 8 times. 10 franchises spent 639.15 crores.
Rishabh Pant became the most expensive player in IPL mega auction history, bought by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for 27 crore rupees. Bihar’s left-hand batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who scored a century against Australia in U-19 at age 13, became IPL’s youngest player. Vaibhav was bought by the Rajasthan Royals (RR).
IPL Mega Auction Highlights…
1. Rishabh Pant – The most expensive player in the IPL mega auction history
Rishabh Pant was bought by Lucknow for 27 crores and Shreyas Iyer was bought by Punjab for 26.75 crore rupees. England’s Jos Buttler was the most expensive foreign player, bought by Gujarat Titans for 15.75 crore rupees.
2. Venkatesh Iyer – The most expensive all-rounder
Kolkata Knight Riders bought Venkatesh Iyer for Rs 23.75 crore. Australia’s Marcus Stoinis is the most expensive foreign all-rounder, bought by Punjab Kings for Rs 11 crore.
3. Arshdeep Singh – The most expensive pacer
Bought by Punjab Kings for Rs 18 crore. Josh Hazlewood, Jofra Archer and Trent Boult were the most expensive foreign pacers. All three were bought by different teams for Rs 12.50 crore.
4. Yuzvendra Chahal – The most expensive spinner
He was bought by Punjab Kings for the highest amount of 18 crore rupees. Ravichandran Ashwin was also sold for 9.75 crore rupees. Afghanistan’s Noor Ahmad was the most expensive foreign spinner, bought by Chennai for 10 crore rupees.
5. Rasikh Dar Salam – The most expensive uncapped player
Jammu-Kashmir’s fast bowler Rasikh Dar received 20 times his base price. He entered the auction with a base price of 30 lakhs. RCB bought the right-arm pacer for 6 crore rupees.
6. Most Shocking Decision:
Delhi batter Priyash Arya was bought by Punjab for Rs 3.80 crore, nearly 13 times his base price of Rs 30 lakh. This will be his IPL debut. Priyash had hit 6 sixes in 6 balls in the Delhi Premier League.
7. Vaibhav Suryavanshi – The youngest player to take part in the IPL history
13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi was bought by Rajasthan for Rs 1.10 crore. His base price was Rs 30 lakh. With this, he has also become the youngest player in IPL history. The Bihar player will make his IPL debut this season. Vaibhav scored a century against Australia in Under-19. Vaibhav made his first-class debut at the age of 12.
8. Arjun Tendulkar bought in the second round
Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun Tendulkar was made part of the Mumbai Indians team in the second round. In the first round, no team showed interest in buying him. Mumbai bought Arjun at a base price of 30 lakhs. Recently, while playing domestic cricket for Goa, Arjun took 5 wickets.
9. Top 5 big players who remained unsold
Several big players remained unsold in the auction. Australian players David Warner and Steve Smith, Kiwi player Kane Williamson and Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur were not bought by any team. Afghan pacer Naveen-ul-Haq also remained unsold.
