GT vs SRH Scenarios: What Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad need to reach IPL 2025 playoffs? – Firstpost
It’s almost a must-win clash for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) as they take on Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Friday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. While Shubman Gill-led GT have enjoyed a good run in IPL 2025, winning six out of nine matches and accumulating 12 points, Sunrisers are ninth in the table, only above Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
SRH, who were the finalists last season, have only secured three wins in nine matches. They have six points so far and are mathematically still alive in the race for the IPL 2025 playoffs. However, a defeat against GT on Friday can mess up their equations.
Five wins from here will give SRH a total point tally of 16 points, which could help them reach the playoffs without getting into the net run rate (NRR) fight. SRH can probably afford one more loss, as four wins and 14 points overall may also be enough, but such a situation should be avoided as it will then force them to rely on NRR for qualification. Also, they have only won three matches so far, so it looks a little difficult that they will win four or five matches from here in IPL 2025.
SRH matches and points: Played: 9, Points: 6, NRR: -1.103
SRH’s remaining matches: GT (a), DC (h), KKR (h), RCB (a), LSG (a)
GT are on 10 points from nine matches so far. Their impressive net run rate (0.748), second only to MI’s 0.889, gives them a strong edge. Wins in all three remaining home games — against SRH, LSG, and CSK — should be enough to secure a playoff spot. With a 3-1 record in Ahmedabad and two of those fixtures against bottom-placed teams, GT will be eyeing maximum points at home.
