Gujarat Titans will host Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedad
Okay then, that wraps up this clash in Ahmedabad. Gujarat Titans take two very crucial points with their seventh win this season, which shoots them up to the second spot. For SRH, their playoff hopes have almost been extinguished and they will have to win all their remaining games. Now then, we head into another weekend in the Indian Premier League 2025, and up next is a generational clash as two of the biggest stars of Indian cricket will be up against each other. It is round two as Royal Challengers Bengaluru host the Chennai Super Kings in a mouth-watering clash. While it is all over for CSK this season, a lot is at stake for RCB to stay glued in the upper echelons of the points table. The first ball is scheduled to be bowled on Saturday, 3rd May, at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT). But do make sure to mark your presence for all the exciting pre-match build up and analysis. Take care, cheers!Â
Prasidh Krishna of Gujarat Titans wins the PLAYER OF THE MATCH award. He collects the award and also receives the Purple Cap as he now becomes the leading wicket-taker in the season so far. Says he is happy that they got a win. On his bowling improvement, he feels that his control over his lines and lengths has been good this season, and the support staff has been really helpful. Adds that on the game day, he highlights to watch every ball of the first innings if they’re bowling second, he tries to take all that he can from that. He adds that he keeps on chatting with the experienced players around and then goes on to hit the right areas.
Shubman Gill, walks up for a chat. He says that the conservation was to play their natural game. Adds that it’s not easy to hit sixes on black soil, but he, Sai, and Buttler know how to keep the scoreboard ticking. Tells that they are very hungry to score runs and do what’s best for the team. Mentions that as a team, their fielding hasn’t been the best, but he was very happy with the efforts in this game. Says that everyone is chipping in nicely, and it is good to have options. Ends by saying that there was a bit of discussion with the umpire, and when there are so many emotions involved, you are bound to show some on the field as well. “>The victorious skipper of Gujarat Titans, Shubman Gill, walks up for a chat. It is time for the Presentation ceremony…
Jos Buttler of Gujarat Titans is next up to chat. He calls it a great team performance from the team in all three departments. Appreciates Rashid Khan for that brilliant catch to see the back of Travis Head, and feels that set the tone for them. Adds the guys in the top order have been in a tremendous form and says their openers play traditional cricket, but play some amazing shots. On Sai Sudharsan, he says that Sai has a mature head on his shoulders and the way he understands the game is just brilliant. Says to come out every day and put in hard work is not that easy. On Prasidh Krishna, he says he does the basics right and bowls on great lines. Adds that he uses his bouncer and yorker very well. Further points that fielding has been a big improvement for them. On their next match, he says that the Mumbai Indians are in great form and it is always great to play at the Wankhede.
The captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad, Pat Cummins, says that they were not that great with the ball in the Powerplay and gave away 20-30 runs extra. Add that he is probably as guilty as anyone and they should have held onto a couple of catches, and again takes the blame. Mentions that the GT batters are class, they do not do anything outlandish but if you bowl bad balls, they will put them away. Says that it was a really good wicket and going for 140 in 14 overs, was a decent job by the entire bowling unit. Further adds that Abhishek batted nicely, and Head also gave them a good start, but they left a little too much for the batters. Tells that it is unfortunate that they are in this position, but they still have some hope to cling to. Says that it is amazing to play at this venue, and there were no empty seats. Ends by saying that this is the first season after the mega auction, and the core will remain for the next three years, so they still have a lot to play for here.
Earlier in the game, the ever-consistent opening pairing of the Titans came out firing when sent in to bat, with Sudharsan and Gill making SRH’s bowlers look ordinary as they peppered the boundary. After a 87-run opening stand, Jos Buttler came in and formed a solid partnership with Gill and they added 62 runs together, totally dominating the mid over phase. Despite Gill getting out, Buttler kept on striking boundaries at regularity, and with some crucial cameos towards the end, GT managed to put on 224 on the board. Once again, the top three of the Titans scored the bulk of runs, as many as 188 runs were scored by the top three, with fifties from Gill and Buttler each. SRH bowlers were taken to the cleaners and their sloppy fielding didn’t help their cause either. Jaydev Unadkat was the most successful bowler, chipping in with a three-for, all coming in the final over of the first innings. Â
A critical factor separating the two teams was their contrasting fielding quality. GT displayed exceptional commitment in the field, with players consistently diving and putting their bodies on the line to save runs and create pressure. SRH, by comparison, appeared noticeably sluggish and imprecise in their fielding efforts, leaking valuable runs through misfields and dropped catches.
Despite Abhishek Sharma’s valiant efforts to maintain momentum, those stagnant middle overs ultimately came back to haunt SRH. The wheels completely fell off when both Abhishek and the big-hitting Klaasen departed in rapid succession, snuffing out any remaining hope. Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj returned for devastating new spells, grabbing control of the match and dismantling SRH’s middle order with two wickets apiece. The collapse was dramatic and decisive as SRH plummeted from a fighting 139/2 to a disastrous 145/6, which put the curtains on their chase.
Once the field restrictions eased, GT’s bowlers immediately tightened the screws. SRH managed just 29 runs in the next four overs with a measly output of only two sixes and a four till the 10th over, also losing Ishan Kishan along the way. The batting momentum that had promised so much during the Powerplay suddenly evaporated.
Known for crushing massive targets like their 240-plus chase earlier this season, SRH’s openers Head and Abhishek, wasted no time launching their assault on GT’s pace attack with some crisp boundary shots. The dangerous partnership had GT sweating until Prasidh Krishna got the breakthrough, thanks to Rashid Khan’s spectacular diving catch. Despite losing a crucial wicket, SRH still powered to an impressive 57/1 by the end of the Powerplay.Â
A job well done by Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad as they get back to winning ways. Failed to defend 209 in the previous game against RR, they have roared back in style and have outclassed Sunrisers Hyderabad in all three facets of the game. This marks SRH’s seventh defeat this season and their playoff hopes get another blow. They can still reach a max of 14 points, but they will have to win all games remaining from here. Their journey, of course, gets more and more difficult from here as they remain stuck in the second-to-the-bottom of the table, with only 6 points.
19.6: Sai Kishore to Nitish Kumar Reddy, A dot to wrap things up for GT! Sai Kishore tosses it up, full and on leg, Nitish Kumar Reddy goes for the reverse sweep again but gets it from the inner half of the bat as the ball rolls to point. GUJARAT TITANS WIN BY 38 RUNS!
19.5: Sai Kishore to Pat Cummins, Slows it up, full and on leg, turns away, Pat Cummins goes through his sweep early as the ball goes off his midriff towards point. A leg bye is taken.
19.4: Sai Kishore to Nitish Kumar Reddy, Floated, short and on leg, Nitish Kumar Reddy works it off the inner half of the bat to short fine for a run.
19.3: Sai Kishore to Nitish Kumar Reddy, Flatter, full and on leg, Nitish Kumar Reddy goes for the reverse sweep but misses and gets hit on the pads.
Ishant Sharma is on the ground and looks in a bit of pain. He is helped by Shahrukh Khan to get up on his feet. Might have pulled off the hamstring as he is limping and is going off the field now. Sai Kishore will finish off the last rites in this game. Surprisingly, GT didn’t use his services with the ball in this game at all.
19.2: Ishant Sharma to Pat Cummins, Uppish but safe again! Another full toss, on middle, Pat Cummins tries to slog it away but gets a top edge. The ball flies high in the air but lands in the vacant mid-wicket region as Rashid Khan from the deep cannot reach it. A single is taken. However, Ishan also slipped on his follow-through and looks in a bit of pain here.
19.1: Ishant Sharma to Pat Cummins, Put down! A full toss, on middle, Pat Cummins mistimes his lofted high in the night sky over the bowler’s head. Ishant Sharma is a bit late to react to run backwards and fails to reach it. Two runs taken.
Ishant Sharma (3-0-32-1) to bowl the last over.
