But despite all the struggles, something quite unexpected stood out- their middle-order batters stepped up in a big way.
While the team as a whole had a forgettable run, the players batting at positions 4 to 7 delivered strong performances game after game. Their middle order ended up being one of the most productive in the entire tournament so far.

Yes, they did. According to the numbers, CSK’s middle-order group collected more runs than any other side this season. They put together a total of 1004 runs across 12 matches.
These batters played 48 innings and maintained a decent average of 27.88. Their strike rate was 134.04. 
That’s higher than Delhi Capitals, who came second with 934, and Rajasthan Royals, who followed with 893. Below is a table comparing the middle-order runs of all 10 IPL teams:

One of the big reasons CSK’s middle order stood out was that the top order didn’t fire. The openers and No. 3 batters had a tough time, which meant the middle-order had to carry most of the load.
Players like Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja, both experienced and retained ahead of the season, were crucial in this role.
