health rgi warning hospitals birth death reporting know new rules for certificates
RGI Birth Death Reporting Rules : Now it has become necessary to give information about the birth of every child and the death of someone on time in the country. The Registrar General of India (RGI) has given strict warning to government and private hospitals that if not informed about birth or death within 21 days, then a fine may be imposed.
Actually, it was seen that many hospitals are either delay in giving information or are not giving themselves themselves. They are waiting for the registration of family members, while the law says this is the responsibility of the hospital, not the common people.

What did RGI say
1. 90% of births and deaths are being recorded in India right now, but the government wants this figure to be 100%.
2. RGI has clearly stated that hospitals will have to inform about the incident within 21 days.
3. If this is not done, then a fine will be imposed and legal action can be taken.
Why is registration delayed
RGI said, instead of giving immediate information about birth and death, many hospitals are waiting for relatives to appeal, not only that they are instructing relatives to inform themselves, which is a violation of the rule. Under the Center’s online portal Civil Registration System (CRS), government hospitals have been entrusted with the responsibility of working as Registrar, but they are not doing so. In a circular of March 17, 2025, RGI said that only 90% birth or death cases are being registered in the country. But 100% target is still to be achieved. In such a situation, this kind of negligence is not good.
Now digital certificate will be valid
From 1 October 2023, the government has accepted the digital birth certificate as official. It has now become necessary in all the work like school admission, job, marriage registration. RGI has ordered all the registries to issue certificates within 7 days. The delay in this will not be tolerated.
