Rajasthan Royals (RR) head coach Rahul Dravid praised India’s One-Day International (ODI) captain Rohit Sharma, who recently got a stand on his name at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. Both Rohit and Rahul helped India clinch the T20 World Cup title after 17 years with the team’s victory in the T20 World Cup 2024, held in the West Indies and United States of America. In the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, both Rohit and Rahul came against each other on May 1, when RR hosted Mumbai Indians at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on May 1.
Discussing Rohit’s sensational achievement, Rahul said that he hoped that the event was the greatest moment for legendary opener’s family and friends and the 52-year-old also wished the star India batter to hammer bowlers in the future. Humourously, Dravid also said that if he fails to get the tickets for a match at Wankhede Stadium, he knows who to dial. “It’s truly well deserved — congratulations! I hope it was a great day with family and friends. Looking forward to seeing a lot more sixes into the Rohit Sharma Stand in all the games that you play. And when I’m short on tickets in Mumbai — now that you have a stand — I know who to contact,” said Rahul in a video posted by Mumbai Indians (MI) on X. Taking to their social media handle, MI dopped the clip and wrote, “Rahul Dravid’s message to RO got us like… P.S. The humour at the start & end. #MumbaiIndians #PlayLikeMumbai #RohitSharmaStand @ImRo45 @rajasthanroyals.”
In the super Sunday clash of IPL 2025, RR will be hosting Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on May 18. Both teams will face each other for the second time in the T20 tournament. On April 5, Punjab and RR clashed in Mullanpur, where Royals clinched an emphatic 50-run win.
Royals have nothing much to lose in the tournament as they are already out of the playoffs contention. With three wins and nine defeats in 12 matches, the first IPL champions are in the ninth spot on the tally. Royals campaign will conclude with their match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on May 20.
