The Gujarat Titans trio of Shubman Gill, Jos Buttler, and Sai Sudharsan currently occupy three of the top five places in IPL 2025 Orange Cap list
Gujarat Titans (GT) are having a season to remember in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, currently sitting top of the table with eight wins in 11 games, needing just one more victory to secure their playoff spot. (Full Coverage | Schedule | Points Table | Cricket News)
The main reason why GT are flying high is the superb form of the top order batting trio of Sai Sudharsan, Jos Buttler, and Shubman Gill, who have all scored more than 500 runs in 11 matches this season.
During GT’s match against Mumbai Indians (MI) at Wankhede on 6 May, none of the trio could secure a half-century – the first time this has happened in IPL 2025. However, they wrote their names in the history book by becoming the first three players from a single team to score 500+ runs in one season.
Sudharsan had already crossed the mark in GT’s previous match against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH), and could only add five runs against MI. Gill was the next, with a composed 43-run knock against Mumbai, and Buttler’s 30-run cameo added him to GT’s 500-run club.
Previously, the batting units of teams like RCB, MI, CSK, SRH, and others could only have as many as two players with 500+ runs in a single IPL season, but that record has now been smashed by GT, with three group games still to play.
Due to their strong performances, the GT trio currently occupy three of the five places in this season’s Orange Cap race, with Sudharsan (509) trailing the current holder Suryakumar Yadav by just one run.
Meanwhile, Tuesday’s match saw another batting record being smashed, as GT skipper Shubman Gill became the third IPL captain, alongside Shreyas Iyer and Virat Kohli, to score 500+ runs in a season before turning 26.
The Titans will hope that their batting form continues in the next match against Delhi Capitals (DC) on 11 May, as a win will guarantee their place in the knockout stages in a bid to secure their second IPL title.
