IPL 2025 LIVE Updates: IPL suspended for one week; Overseas players looking to exit India ASAP – Firstpost
IPL Live Updates: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has been suspended with immediate effect for one week. The decision was taken by the BCCI and the IPL Governing Council after a meeting with key stakeholders that included the franchises and the broadcasters. With the growing tension between India and Pakistan and the recent attack of Indian cities, BCCI felt it was the right time to halt the league temporarily. Follow the latest on IPL 2025 and when the remaining matches could be completed here on our blog.
IPL organisers are in no hurry. The organisers have decided to follow a wait-and-watch policy and resume the league next week if situation improves.
“See, given the situation as of now, we thought it appropriate that it does not make sense to have the tournament going on for a while, and as the situation unfolds in the coming days, accordingly will take a call,” Dhumal said.
“We were considering (full suspension) and we were discussing with all the stakeholders and it was thought appropriate to suspended for a week, assess the situation and then take a final call.
“See as of now, as you know, the entire country is focused on winning this war and we want to show our solidarity with our armed forces with our government. So that is the focus as of now, we are not considering everything else as of now. So, we will review the situation and accordingly, take a call after discussing with all the stakeholders.”

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend the remainder of the ongoing TATA IPL 2025 with immediate effect for one week. Further updates regarding the new schedule and venues of the tournament will be announced in due course after a comprehensive assessment of the situation in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders.
The decision was taken by the IPL Governing Council after due consultation with all key stakeholders following the representations from most of the franchisees, who conveyed the concern and sentiments of their players, and also the views of the broadcaster, sponsors and fans ; while the BCCI reposes full faith in the strength and preparedness of our armed forces, the Board considered it prudent to act in the collective interest of all stakeholders.
At this critical juncture, the BCCI stands firmly with the nation. We express our solidarity with the Government of India, the Armed Forces and the people of our country. The Board salutes the bravery, courage, and selfless service of our armed forces, whose heroic efforts under Operation Sindoor continue to protect and inspire the nation, as they lead a resolute response to the recent terrorist attack and the unwarranted aggression by Pakistan’s armed forces.
While cricket remains a national passion, there is nothing greater than the Nation and its sovereignty, integrity, and security of our country. The BCCI remains firmly committed to support all efforts that safeguard India and will always align its decisions in the best interest of the nation.
The BCCI thanks its key stakeholder – Jiostar, the league’s official broadcaster for their understanding and unwavering support. The Board is also grateful to Title sponsor TATA and all associate partners and stakeholders for coming forward with their unequivocal support for this decision and for putting national interest above all other considerations.”
The BCCI secretary has officially announced that the IPL 2025 is suspended for now, but the league has been halted only for one week as of now.
“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend the remainder of the ongoing TATA IPL 2025 with immediate effect for one week,” the BCCI release said. “Further updates regarding the new schedule and venues of the tournament will be announced in due course after a comprehensive assessment of the situation in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders.”
The PBKS vs DC match should not have taken place in the first place, but once it was forced to be suspended, BCCI and the local organisers, HPCA, showed some great thinking to avoid any panic. The floodlights were switched off. This would have made it difficult for any fighter jet to spot the stadium in case an attack was launched in Dharamsala.
Also, instead of announcing that the game would be halted due to ongoing attacks from Pakistan on Indian cities, the fans were informed that the floodlights were not working and the match wouldn’t continue. The fans were asked to leave the stadium, and barricades were removed to facilitate a swift exodus.
The HPCA admitted only today that the PBKS vs DC match was suspended due to a security threat.
“The Delhi-Punjab IPL match here yesterday had to be stopped due to security reasons, considering the India-Pakistan tensions,” Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Director Sanjay Sharma told news agency ANI.
“Even before that, there were strong feelings that something like this could happen. For that, the HPCA and the Punjab Kings franchise operations staff were already in touch with the administration. The police administration and the franchise had made extensive preparations in case such a situation arises… When the match was postponed, it was handled smoothly without any untoward incident, and no spectator faced any trouble or injury… Both teams have gone back because there were no flights, so they went by road… The next IPL match, which was to be held here between Mumbai and Punjab, was already doubtful because all the airports here were closed. Therefore, it did not seem possible for the Mumbai team to come here.”

Before the IPL match was suspended midway yesterday, singer B Praak gave a fitting tribute to India’s armed forces.
“We continue to closely monitor the situation in Pakistan and India, including obtaining regular advice and updates from the Australian Government, the PCB, BCCI and local government authorities, and maintaining communication with our players and support staff currently in the region,” Cricket Australia said in a statement on Friday morning.

IPL 2025 LIVE Updates: The fate of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 hangs in the balance amid escalating tensions between Indian and Pakistan. As Pakistan attacked multiple Indian cities on Thursday night, including Jammu and Jaisalmer, the match between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Dharamsala was called off midway.
The Indian Air Defence System successfully thwarted all the danger on Thursday night as Pakistan reportedly launched over 50 missiles and drones across Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab and Rajasthan. There are also reports that India has launched its own counter-attack in Islamabad, Karachi, Sialkot and Lahore.
The rising tensions have cast a shadow on the remaining IPL 2025 matches while PBKS and DC players remain stuck in Dharamsala due to the closure of the airport. The big decision on the future of the remaining IPL 2035 matches could come today (Friday, 9 May).
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) face Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Friday’s IPL 2025 match on Friday and while the major venues are considered safe, there’s growing sentiment among fans that the tournament should be halted for now as our armed forces engage with Pakistan.
So far, the official stand of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is that any decision on suspending the IPL 2025 will be taken after the government’s advice.
“We are reviewing the situation right now. It is an evolving situation. We haven’t received any directive from the government. Obviously the decision will be taken keeping all the logistics in mind,” IPL chairman Arun Dhumal said on Thursday.
We will bring you all the live updates on IPL 2025 throughout the day. Stay tuned.
