IPL 2025 Points Table: Updated standings after KKR beat DC in a thriller in Delhi – Firstpost
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season is currently underway, with all 10 teams having completed at least four or five games. With each game carrying crucial points, the competition for the top four spots remains intense. Teams will be looking for consistency and improving their net run rate (NRR) to stay in contention for the playoffs.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by 14 runs in an exciting match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. KKR got off to a flying start with Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Sunil Narine smashing quick runs early on. Angkrish Raghuvanshi’s 44 and Rinku Singh’s 36 kept the momentum going, but DC bowlers, led by Mitchell Starc’s 3 wickets, pulled things back in the death overs. KKR finished with a strong 204/9 in 20 overs, setting a big target for Delhi.
In reply, DC lost early wickets but Faf du Plessis and Axar Patel brought them back into the game with a brilliant partnership. However, Sunil Narine’s magical spell, picking up three key wickets, and Varun Chakravarthy’s two-in-two strike broke DC’s hopes. Vipraj Nigam fought hard with a blazing 38 off 19 balls, but it wasn’t enough. DC finished at 190/9, falling short by 14 runs as KKR grabbed two important points.
Here’s a look at the updated points table after the DC vs KKR match:
Orange Cap: Sai Sudharsan (GT) — 456 runs in 9 innings at a strike rate of 150.00.
Purple Cap: Josh Hazlewood (RCB) – 18 wickets in 10 innings at an economy of 8.44
The final IPL 2024 league standings saw eventual champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) finish on top with 20 points from 14 matches, thanks to 9 wins, 3 losses, and 2 no-results. They were followed by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Rajasthan Royals (RR), both with 17 points, securing second and third positions respectively.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) completed a remarkable turnaround to clinch the fourth playoff spot. They won five matches in a row to finish with 14 points and edging out Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Delhi Capitals (DC), and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), all of whom also ended with 14 points but had inferior NRRs.
Gujarat Titans (GT) suffered due to two no-results and a poor NRR, finishing 8th with 12 points, while Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Mumbai Indians (MI) rounded out the bottom two.
