IPL 2025: Rishabh Pant's 'Punjab Kings' Auction Comment Comes Back To Haunt Him After PBKS Flop Show – Jagran English
LSG vs PBKS, IPL 2025: Pant has become the talk of the town on social media platforms because that Rs 27 crore price tag isn't that light on his shoulders, considering that the wicketkeeper-batter hasn't found his footing in the IPL 2025.
LSG vs PBKS, IPL 2025: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant’s pre-season joke about Punjab Kings has come back to haunt him after a pathetic performance against PBKS in Lucknow on Tuesday.
The Lucknow Super Giants captain was struggling once again, as he was clean-bowled for just 2 runs off 5 balls, marking his third consecutive failure in the IPL 2025 season.
A group of fans on social media unearthed an old clip of Pant jokingly expressing his relief for not being picked by Punjab Kings in the IPL mega auction. Prior to the auction, there was speculation of Pant going to Punjab, which had the largest purse, making his light comment worth recalling in hindsight.
However, in a historic move, the Lucknow Super Giants ultimately acquired Rishabh Pant for a staggering Rs 27 crore, setting a new record as the highest price ever paid for a player in the IPL auction.

“I had only one tension, and that was Punjab Kings,” Pant told Star Sports.
Following Pant’s disappointing batting performance against Punjab, fans were swift to point out that his earlier comment had not stood the test of time, serving as a reminder that his joke had ultimately come back to haunt him.

Pant was again struggling against Punjab Kings; this time, he fell to fine short ball by Glenn Maxwell. Pant tried to flick the ball to get it past short fine leg, but offered a simple catch to Yuzvendra Chahal standing there. The Lucknow Super Giants captain had another disappointing outing, scoring only 2 off 5.
