IPL 2025 suspended amid India-Pakistan conflict – Firstpost

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 was suspended by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday amid the ongoing conflict between Indian and Pakistan. The big decision comes a day after the match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals was suspended midway at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala due to a security threat.
The suspension of the IPL 2025 was inevitable. Two major factors drove the decision. First, the BCCI wants to respect the prevailing national sentiment — with the military engaged in a conflict with Pakistan, continuing the tournament was seen as inappropriate. Second, several players, particularly overseas cricketers, were reportedly unwilling to continue playing under the current circumstances.
The official statement from the BCCI on the IPL 2025 suspension is expected soon.
Also, the window originally scheduled for India’s tour of Bangladesh and the Asia Cup in August-September may be repurposed to complete the tournament.
IPL 2025 has already completed 58 of the 70 league matches, including the PBKS vs DC game that was called off last night. The playoffs were scheduled to be held in Hyderabad and Kolkata. Here’s a venue-wise distribution of the remaining 12 league matches – Lucknow (2), Hyderabad, Ahmedabad (3), Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru (2), Mumbai and Jaipur.
As per the latest reports, the PBKS and DC players have left Dharamsala for Delhi by a special train, which was arranged by the BCCI.
