In what has been the latest development, as per the reports in The Times of India, it is learned that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has finalised the venue for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction.
The IPL 2026 auction, which will be a mini-auction, will take place in Abu Dhabi, as reported by TOI. This marks the third consecutive year that the auction of cricket’s biggest league will be happening outside India.
The last two IPL auctions were held in Saudi Arabia and Dubai and now this year Abu Dhabi will join the party. The reports stated that, BCCI had discussions around hosting IPL 2026 auction in India itself, since it is supposed to be a mini auction.
However, the BCCI ultimately went ahead with the trend of hosting the auctions overseas. The last three auctions were blockbusters and this time around something similar is expected as some of the big names are all set to go under the hammer.
The reports also claimed that the BCCI has finalised the December 15-16 window for IPL 2026 auction. The governing body has also given the deadline of November 15 to all the franchises to give their list of released and retained players ahead of the auction.
With the IPL 2026 auction around the corner, the buzz is high. One of the biggest trades in the league is on the cards as Sanju Samson is all set to join Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who in trade will give Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran to Rajasthan Royals (RR).
The trade is in the final stages and is likely to be completed soon. The official statement related to the same is expected soon. In the auction, some of the big players in Cameron Green, Ben Duckett are expected to go under the hammer.
As far as the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 auction is concerned, the event will take place in India. It will be a mega auction and will get underway in Delhi on November 27.
IPL 2026 auction is likely to take place on December 15-16.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) won IPL 2025.
