IPL 2026 Mini-Auction Set To Take Place On This Date In Abu Dhabi: Report – Times Now

The preparations are in full swing for the IPL 2026 mini-auction and the franchises are busy inking on the players they want to retain and release before the one-day event. The franchises have until November 15 to submit the list of retained and released players to the BCCI. Following this, the BCCI will release a list of players who will be up for grabs during the mini-auction. The mini-auction will be a one-day event.
ESPNcricinfo has reported that the IPL 2026 mini-auction will take place on December 16 in Abu Dhabi. This will be the third consecutive year that the BCCI will host the auction outside of India. The first overseas IPL auction took place in 2024.
Two trades confirmed before retention day
As many as two trades have been confirmed before the retention day. Mumbai Indians (MI) made the first signing before the retention day and brought in Shardul Thakur from Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Shardul had joined LSG for Rs 2 crore as a replacement player before IPL 2025.
MI made the second signing as well. They have brought in Sherfane Rutherford from Gujarat Titans. It’s the second time they have signed Rutherford via trade. They signed him via trade before IPL 2020 as well. Rohit Sharma-led MI went on to win the IPL 2020 title.

Sanju Samson to join Chennai Super Kings
Multiple reports have confirmed that Sanju Samson is all but set to join Chennai Super Kings (CSK) via trade. He is the present captain of Rajasthan Royals (RR). The trade could also take place after the IPL 2026 retention day.
CSK will trade Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran to RR. Jadeja is likely to be named RR’s captain for IPL 2026. The announcement was expected to take place a few days back. Jadeja started his IPL career with RR and is set to play for them again after 17 years.
