IPL 2026 Trade Window: Mumbai Indians Likely To Release These 3 Players Ahead Of Auction – news24online.com

The Mumbai Indians, one of the IPL’s most decorated teams are expected to make some bold calls ahead of the 2026 season. After an inconsistent campaign in IPL 2025, MI will be looking to reset and refocus by releasing under-performers and creating space in both their squad and salary purse.
Here are three players who could be shown the door before the next auction:
MI made headlines when they picked up Deepak Chahar for a whopping Rs 9.25 crore in the 2025 auction, banking on his experience and new-ball skills. Unfortunately, Chahar didn’t quite deliver. Across 14 matches, he claimed only 11 wickets and was expensive, leaking runs at an economy rate of over 9.17.
Considering the heavy investment and underwhelming return, Mumbai may choose to release him and scout for bowlers who can offer more consistency particularly in the crucial powerplay and death overs.

Robin Minz was signed for Rs 65 lakh as a promising domestic wicketkeeper-batter. While he showed flashes of potential during training, his performance in the one opportunity he received left much to be desired scoring just 3 runs off 9 balls against CSK.
Given MI’s depth and the fierce competition for spots, it wouldn’t be surprising if the franchise moves on from Minz and looks toward more proven or in-form Indian options for their backup keeper role.
Reece Topley, the tall left-arm pacer from England, has long battled injuries and IPL 2025 was no exception. He featured in just one match and failed to make any real impact. With overseas slots being limited and highly valuable, MI might not be willing to take another chance on an injury-prone player.
Letting go of Topley would free up a slot and allow the team to go after a more dependable overseas fast bowler during the auction.
By releasing Chahar, Minz, and Topley, Mumbai Indians could clear up around Rs 10 to Rs 11 crore in their budget. More importantly, it would open up key squad positions allowing the team to target high-impact players who can address the gaps exposed in the previous season. With these changes, MI could take a major step toward rebuilding a more competitive, well-balanced squad for IPL 2026.
