Ahead of the IPL 2026 mini-auction, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are reportedly trying to acquire KL Rahul as their new captain. The team wants Rahul to play the role of a wicketkeeper-batsman in the top order.
Last season, 37-year-old Ajinkya Rahane captained the team, but KKR is now looking for a younger and more aggressive captain. The franchise believes Rahul is the best option for this role.
On the other hand, Delhi Capitals (DC) are not in the mood to let go of their star batsman so easily. The team says that if KKR wants Rahul, they will have to offer a player of equal caliber in return.
Several informal meetings have taken place between the two teams, but so far, no conclusion has been reached. KKR does not have players that would entice DC to agree to a trade.
According to sources, DC offered three different combinations in exchange for Rahul — a direct swap for Sunil Narine, a combination of Rinku Singh and Angkrish Raghuvanshi, and a combination of Harshit Rana and Raghuvanshi.
KKR rejected all three proposals. The team stated that Rinku Singh and Harshit Rana are their homegrown stars, and they will remain with the team for the long term.
KKR’s new coach, Abhishek Nayar, is overseeing this deal. Nayar personally trains young player Angkrish Raghuvanshi. DC is also particularly interested in Raghuvanshi because he is associated with JSW Sports.
Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals are close to finalizing another trade deal that could involve Sanju Samson, Tristan Stubbs, and an uncapped Indian player. If both Rahul and Samson join DC, the team’s brand value will increase, but it will create a major challenge regarding the playing eleven.
