Prashant Veer, 20-year-old all-rounder from Uttar Pradesh, and Kartik Sharma, 19-year-old keeper-batter from Rajasthan, became the highest-paid uncapped players in the history of the auction, coming at a base price of ₹30 lakh each. Both the players were snapped up by Chennai Super Kings for a record-breaking ₹28.40 crore, shelling ₹14.20 crore for each after a bidding battle with other franchises.
Veer came into the spotlight for the first time while representing Noida Super Kings in the UP T20 League, putting him on CSK’s selectors’ radar. Meanwhile, Sharma too gained the attention of the franchises for his impressive displays in domestic-level cricket.
J&K bowling all-rounder Auqib Nabi Dar was another uncapped bowler who hit gold at the IPL mini-auction. The 29-year-old was sold to Delhi Capitals for ₹8.40 crore, a huge surge compared to his base price of ₹30 lakh.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru paid ₹5.2 crore for Mangesh Yadav, another uncapped player who hit gold at the auctions and had come in at a base price of ₹30 lakh. 23-year-old wicketkeeper-batter Tejasvi Singh was snapped up by Kolkata Knight Riders for ₹3 crore, while Mukul Choudhary was acquired by Lucknow Super Giants for ₹2.60 crore.
Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders splurged on landing Australian cricketer Cameron Green for a whopping ₹25.20 crore, making him the most expensive overseas player at an IPL auction. Sri Lankan cricketer Matheesha Pathirana was also bagged by KKR for ₹18 crore. England’s Liam Livingstone was also among the top buys at the auction and was snapped up by Sunrisers Hyderabad for ₹13 crore.
There was intense bidding also for Bangladesh’s Mustafizur Rahman, who was bagged by Kolkata Knight Riders for ₹9.20 crore. Josh Inglis, Ravi Bishnoi and Jason Holder were among the other players who witnessed their value soar during the auction. The next edition of the T20 league is scheduled for March next year.
