IPL betting bust: CCB cracks down on illegal bets, seizes assets worth crores – newskarnataka.com
A special team from the Bengaluru City Crime Branch (CCB) launched a citywide crackdown on illegal cricket betting and black-market IPL ticket sales linked to Tata IPL 2025 matches held between April 2 and 18. Several individuals were arrested, and assets worth crores were seized across multiple police station jurisdictions.
On April 2, City Market Police caught one person with cash, three phones, bank funds of ₹9,115, and betting chips worth ₹1.06 lakh. That same day, Subramanyapura Police arrested another individual, recovering ₹40,177 from bank accounts and betting chips valued at over ₹27 lakh. CK Achchukattu Police arrested a suspect on April 3, seizing ₹13.85 lakh in bank funds.
On April 10, Jeevan Bima Nagar Police arrested a person with ₹39,800 in cash, ₹3.68 lakh in bank funds, chips worth ₹2.43 lakh, and two mobiles. Yelahanka Police made another arrest, recovering chips worth ₹37.2 lakh, cash, bank deposits, a laptop, and a phone. Cubbon Park Police handled major busts—two betting arrests led to the seizure of ₹63.37 lakh in chips, ₹12 lakh in bank accounts, and several phones. They also arrested multiple people in black-ticketing cases, recovering inflated-price tickets, phones, and illegal cash proceeds.
Konanakunte, Byadarahalli, and Basaveshwara Nagar police stations also reported similar arrests with lakhs in betting chips and digital evidence seized. Notably, Cubbon Park Police nabbed a suspect with ₹42.91 lakh in chips and ₹31.49 lakh in bank funds, and in another case, four people selling tickets outside Chinnaswamy Stadium were caught with 25 tickets and ₹31.94 lakh earned online.
All individuals face legal action, and investigations continue.
