The Indian Premier League started back in 2008, and a total of eight teams participated in the league. Rajasthan Royals won the first-ever edition of the league. The Deccan Chargers won the second season of the league. The team was terminated from the league in 2012 and was replaced by Sunrisers Hyderabad.
In 2011, two new teams, Pune Warriors India and Kochi Tuskers Kerala, were introduced in the tournament. Kochi Tuskers lasted only one season, and Pune Warriors withdrew after the 2013 season. Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals were banned for two seasons in 2016 and 2017, and were temporarily replaced by Rising Pune Supergiant and Gujarat Lions. Both teams made a comeback to the league in 2018.
In 2022, two new teams, Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans, were introduced in the league. The Titans went on to win the league in their first-ever attempt. Let’s look at the IPL points table of all seasons so far:

Delhi Daredevils were in first place and won 10 out of 14 matches. Chennai Super Kings were in second position and won eight out of 14 matches. PBKS, RR, MI, and KKR were in the last four places, respectively.
In 2010, the Mumbai Indians finished in first place in the points table. They faced the Chennai Super Kings in the final. CSK won the match by 22 runs after posting a total of 168 runs for the loss of five wickets.
Deccan Chargers were in second place, while Royal Challengers Bangalore were in fourth position. DC and RCB played the 3rd Place Play-off game, which RCB won by nine wickets. The Chargers got bundled out for 82 runs while batting first.
Apart from introducing two new teams, 2011 also saw the playoffs being played for the first time. The top two teams had two chances of qualifying for the final. RCB and CSK finished in the first two places, respectively.

MI finished in first place with 10 wins in 14 matches. Rising Pune Supergiant were in second position and won nine out of 14 games. SRH and KKR were in the next two positions.
RPS defeated MI in the first qualifier, while MI won the second qualifier against KKR. In the final, MI made 129 runs for the loss of eight wickets. In reply, RPS made 128 runs for the loss of six wickets and won the match by one run.
In 2018, both SRH and CSK won nine out of 14 matches and finished in the first two places, respectively. KKR were in third position, while RR finished in fourth place.
CSK won the first qualifier against SRH. KKR defeated RR in the eliminator and faced SRH in the second qualifier. SRH made 174 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the second qualifier and won by 14 runs. In the final, CSK chased down the target of 179 runs in 18.3 overs with eight wickets in hand.
In 2019, MI, CSK, and DC won nine out of 14 games and finished in the first three places. SRH finished in fourth place and won six out of 14 games. KKR and PBKS also won six out of 14 matches.
MI defeated CSK in the first qualifier, while CSK defeated CSK in the second qualifier. In the final, MI made 149 runs for the loss of eight wickets. CSK finished with 148 runs for the loss of seven wickets and lost the match by one run.
In 2020, MI won nine out of 14 games and finished in first place. DC won eight matches and were in second position. SRH and RCB won seven matches each and were in the next two places.
MI defeated DC in the first qualifier by 57 runs after scoring 200 runs for the loss of five wickets. The two teams faced each other in the final once again. DC scored 156 runs for the loss of seven wickets. MI took 18.4 overs to reach the target of 157 runs with five wickets in hand.

In the final, GT made 214 runs for the loss of four wickets. CSK got a target of 171 runs in 15 overs, which they chased on the last delivery of their innings.

In 2025, PBKS finished in first place with nine wins in 14 matches. The next two teams, RCB and GT, also won nine games. MI were in fourth place with eight wins to their name. RCB won the first qualifier by eight wickets. PBKS defeated MI in the second qualifier by five wickets.
In the final, RCB made 190 runs for the loss of nine wickets. In reply, PBKS made 184 runs for the loss of seven wickets, and RCB won the match by six runs.
