Gujarat Titans post 180/6, but Lucknow Super Giants will take that after GT raced to 120/0 in 12 overs. Avesh Khan broke the opening stand, Bishnoi struck twice in one over, and the death bowlers nailed their plans, especially with wide lines to Rutherford. Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan gave GT a strong start, but LSG’s fightback was sharp. The pitch isn’t easy, cutters are gripping, and Marsh is missing. The chase could get spicy. Back in five.
Shahrukh Khan launches it for six. A juicy low full-toss drifting outside leg stump, and he doesn’t miss out. Swings through it cleanly and sends it flat over the deep backward square leg boundary, clears it comfortably on the full.
Rutherford doesn’t score. A full, wide delivery outside off, Rutherford reaches for it but misses. He reviews for a wide, and third umpire Michael Gough takes his time. No spike on UltraEdge, and the review is turned down.
Rutherford doesn’t score. Excellent bowling as Digvesh Rathi delivers a very full ball, wide outside off. Rutherford stretches to reach it and tries to squeeze it out, but misses. He reviews, hoping for a wide call, but the umpire remains unmoved.
Buttler departs. A crucial breakthrough for Digvesh Rathi as he sends Buttler back for 16 off 14 balls, including 2 fours.
Rathi delivers a full ball outside off, and Buttler, looking to capitalize, reverse-sweeps it powerfully over backward point for a boundary. The ball finds the gap, racing to the boundary, but Rathi strikes back immediately.
Sherfane Rutherford, the left-handed batter, walks to the crease as Buttler takes strike. Buttler pushes a short of length delivery, angled in on off, to the left of mid-wicket. Himmat Singh charges in, gathering the ball with a swift under-arm throw, but misses the stumps by inches. Buttler, clearly struggling, keeps his head down and sprints, narrowly escaping a direct hit.
Shubman Gill falls for 60! Avesh Khan serves it full in the slot at 122.3kph, and Gill looks to clear long-on but miscues it. The ball goes high, not far, and Aiden Markram at long-on times his jump perfectly to take a clean catch just inside the rope. Much-needed breakthrough for LSG.
Jos Buttler comes to the crease.
GT 122/1 (12.4)
A rare loose delivery from Digvesh Rathi, full and drifting down leg as Sai Sudharsan backs away. The left-hander gets down low and nails the sweep, sending it racing square past short fine leg for four. That boundary brings up his 10th IPL fifty, a classy knock filled with timing, control, and intent.
Ravi Bishnoi fires it in full at 94.1kph but strays down the leg side, called wide. Sai Sudharsan goes for the sweep but fails to connect. Rishabh Pant does well behind the stumps to gather cleanly. That extra brings up 100 for Gujarat Titans.
A full and quicker delivery at 100kph, just outside off, Shubman Gill stays composed and punches it down to long-off for a single. That run brings up his half-century, a well-paced and assured knock at the top of the order.
A strong powerplay from Gujarat Titans, with Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan leading the charge. While Ekana isn’t typically a batter-friendly pitch, the openers have made it look easy, putting together a solid 50-run partnership. With the foundation laid, both will now be eyeing half-centuries as they look to accelerate.
Avesh is greeted with a massive six! The ball, bowled at 129.2kph, lands short of a length and on the pads. Sai Sudharsan doesn’t miss his chance, whipping it cleanly up and over deep backward square leg. He middles it perfectly, and the ball sails over the ropes, bringing up GT’s fifty in style.
Rathi bowls it over the wicket, short of length at 87.8kph, and Gill knocks it towards wide mid-on. Without a second thought, he calls for two, and the pair race between the wickets with sharp running. The call was spot on, and the crowd can sense the energy picking up as they push for every run.
The game kicks off with a boundary, and that’s not the kind of start you want to offer Sai Sudharsan. Thakur digs it in short and wide outside off, but Sai’s quick to pounce, slapped cleanly between point and cover point for four. He’s not someone you want growing in confidence this early.
