The in-form Royal Challengers Bengaluru will pose a stiff challenge to Mumbai Indians, who are yet to fire in this season. Catch the live score and updates of the Indian Premier League match
Rajat Patidar was awarded the Player of the Match award for his superb 64-run knock from 32 balls. However, in his acceptance speech, the RCB skipper dedicated his award to “the entire bowling unit”, naming Krunal Pandya as “amazing” for the way he bowled in the final over.
And that’s that! Royal Challengers Bengaluru secure a 12-run win against Mumbai Indians for their third win in IPL 2025.
Krunal Pandya’s last over will be one of the best 20th overs bowled in IPL history. He was quite expensive in his first three overs, but boy did he deliver when it mattered. Three wickets and just six runs – RCB’s historic win is as much his accomplishment as it is of their in-form batters today.
Two wickets in the first two balls for Krunal Pandya – can it get any better than that? Tim David takes the first catch after Mitch Santner tries to hit a big one towards deep mid wicket. But the next wicket is even better, with Phil Salt and David combining to have what will probably be a catch-of-the-season contender. RCB well and truly in control now.
MI 203/8 in 19.2 overs
Mumbai Indians need 19 runs from the last over to win this match, with Mitchell Santner and Naman Dhir on the pitch. Santner on strike. Krunal Pandya will bowl the last over.
Is that it for Mumbai? Skipper Hardik Pandya attempts a big shot from an immaculate yorker by Josh Hazlewood. There is no room to work his magic, and the lack of power means that the ball only reaches as far as Liam Livingstone at deep mid wicket. Twist after twist in the match so far.
Hardik Pandya 42(15) c Livinstone b Hazlewood
How crucial is that wicket for Royal Challengers Bengaluru? Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowls a slower one to Tilak, who tries to slog it over point, but the ball has no speed and lands in the hands of Phil Salt. MI was running away with the win, and this wicket may very well decide the match now.
Tilak Varma 56(29) c Salt b Kumar
Mumbai Indians are giving it their all to make most of the last few overs. Tilak Varma, who has hit two sixes in the last two overs, reaches his well-deserved fifty. Mumbai need 41 runs from 18 balls, and if this onslaught from Hardik and Tilak continues, they may secure the win even before that.
MI 181/4 in 17 overs
Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma take their partnership to 50 runs from just 16 balls. The last three overs have been massive for the home side – yielding 58 runs. Hardik is only dealing in sixes and fours at the moment, dispathing brother Krunal for two big sixes. It suddenly looks game on! We have a proper chase on our hands, folks. Required run rate is still 13, but nothing is out of the question now.
MI 157/4 in 15 overs
An instant comeback from Yash Dayal. Tilak Varma smashes him for a six, but Dayal sticks to his gun. Suryakumar repeats his last stroke yet again. A slower ball, and he tries to hit it inside out, and the ball flies towards Phil Salt at mid off. Another of Dayal’s celebratory sprint. The pacer is having a good night at Wankhede.
Suryakumar Yadav 28(26) c Salt b Dayal
A slower delivery from Yash Dayal, and Suryakumar Yadav chops at the ball, which goes up in the sky. The bowler seems well-positioned to take the catch but wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma comes running in and clashes with Dayal – almost trying to snatch the catch – and the ball goes down. Dayal is not pleased at all at the miscommunication from his keeper, and SKY survives for the moment.
Suryakumar Yadav dropped at 28(25) by Dayal
After a yorker, Krunal Pandya brings out a bouncer, and Will Jacks tries to hook it towards backward square leg. However, the ball doesn’t have any power, and Virat Kohli is more than grateful to hold on to the ball. A much-needed wicket for RCB.
Will Jacks 22(18) c Kohli b Pandya
RCB’s Josh Hazlewood has having a strong season so far, and it shows in his figures as well. The pacer has the best economy rate (4.62) in Powerplay overs in IPL 2025, with second-placed Mohammed Siraj having an economy rate of 6.27.
After two quiet overs from Suyash Sharma and Josh Hazlewood, a big over as Krunal Pandya concedes 14 from the eighth over. Krunal bowls into the stumps, and Suryakumar dispatches him for back-to-back fours. Will Jacks hits another boundary with the reverse sweep, and Mumbai Indians are now up to 73.
MI 73/2 in 8 overs
Second wicket down for MI, as Ryan Rickelton is sent back by Josh Hazlewood. After a massive shout for LBW, Patidar reviews the decision. Reviews show that the ball, which Rickelton completely swung and missed, would have hit the stumps. RCB players flock Hazlewood, who is having a terrific season so far.
Ryan Rickelton 17(10) lbw b Hazlewood
RCB get their own quick start as well! After being hit for back-to-back fours by Rohit Sharma, medium-pacer Yash Dayal bounces back with a swinger, sneaking in between bat and leg – with a little bit of an inside edge – and hitting the leg stump. MI have gotten runs on the board early in the chase, but this wicket will be costly.
Rohit Sharma 17(9) b Dayal
Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma are starting Mumbai Indians’ chase, while seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar will open the bowling for RCB. Rohit has the strike.
Mumbai Indians would need their best-ever chase at the Wankhede Stadium to get a win in today’s match. Their highest-ever successful chase at this stadium came in IPL 2023, when they scored 214/4 against Rajasthan Royals.
A terrific first innings from the away side, as RCB score 221/5. Despite some tight bowling from Jasprit Bumrah, Jitesh Sharma hit a big maximim and had a good decision in the last ball, reversing an LBW decision given against him.
Mumbai Indians need 222 runs in the second winnings to win the game (required run rate of more than 11). Not impossible for Hardik Pandya and Co. but it’s going to be a cracking chase.
Stay tuned for our second half coverage!
RCB 221/5 in 20 overs
What a fantastic catch from Ryan Rickelton to dismiss Rajat Patidar. The RCB skipper tried to scoop a wide delivery from Boult, but catches the ball on the edge which sends it high up. Wicketkeeper Rickelton runs all the way back and dives forward with the ball in his gloves. A fantastic knock comes to an end.
Rajat Patidar 64(32) c Rickelton b Boult
Royal Challengers Bengaluru crossed the 200-mark in the first ball of the 19th over in style, with Jitesh Sharma hitting a massive six off Trent Boult. Brilliant movement of the wrist, and that’s a big maximum!
RCB 205/4 in 18.1 overs
MI skipper Hardik Pandya delivers with the ball at a crucial juncture. He first sends back the red-hot Virat Kohli (67 off 42) with a length ball that is mishit to deep mid wicket. Two balls later, Pandya sees the back of Liam Livingstone with a wide bouncer that is top-edged to Bumrah at short third. Mumbai have pulled things back admirably before the death overs.
RCB 151-4 (15 overs)
Virat Kohli smacks left-arm spinner Vignesh Puthur for an imperious six to bring up a superlative half-century off just 29 deliveries. But the tweaker responds soon by getting rid of Devdutt Padikkal, whose miscued lofted shot is caught well by Will Jacks at long on. The southpaw departs, but not before playing a handy 22-ball 37. RCB skipper Rajat Patidar joins Kohli.
RCB 100/2 (10 overs)
Virat Kohli looks like a man on fire in the early powerplay overs. He has hit two boundaries and one maximum in the last two overs, including a giant six off Jasprit Bumrah. He is moving his hands and feet elegantly, and MI bowlers might have a day to forget if he maintains this form in the middle overs.
Virat Kohli 35*(18)
Despite the early setbacks, RCB are enjoying their time at Wankhede. Five fours and one six aleady, as both Kohli and Padikkal are going after Deepak Chahar and Trent Boult.
Hardik Pandya has finally turned to Jasprit Bumrah in the fourth over. Will he be able to stop the runs from leaking?
RCB 33/1 after 3 overs
What a comeback from Trent Boult. After being smashed to the covers by Phil Salt in the first ball of the match, the pacer roars back with an immaculate delivery. Salt completely misses the ball, which smashes all three stumps.
An early breakthrough for Mumbai, and Boult enjoyed that – his reaction makes it very evident.
Phil Salt 4(2) b Boult
Left-arm pacer Trent Boult is starting the bowling for Mumbai Indians, while RCB have sent Phil Salt and Virat Kohli as the opening partnership. Salt with the first strike.
Mumbai Indians have one slip fielder in place for Boult.
