Mumbai Indians pack as the IPL’s most valuable team; pip Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Chennai Super Kings – Cricket Addictor

Mumbai Indians (MI) have emerged as the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) most valuable franchise, even as the league’s overall brand worth has taken a dip. As per the Brand Finance Annual Report on the Most Valuable IPL Brands, MI are ahead of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
The IPL saw a sharp drop in value in 2025 as geopolitical issues and the mega auction created uncertainty across teams. According to the annual valuation report, the marquee tournament’s ecosystem dropped to $9.6 billion from $12 billion last year, as external and internal changes affected its overall worth.
According to a report by Brand Finance on Tuesday, the IPL is in a necessary correction phase that can help the league rebuild its long-term brand strength.

“Geopolitical disruptions, lost momentum and auction missteps prompted teams to recalibrate their squad composition to result in subpar match-day performances,” it said. “IPL 2025 reflects a period of course correction, positioning the league to regain momentum and strengthen its long-term brand value.”
“We estimate that IPL 2025 ecosystem generated over 1.5 million direct, indirect jobs in India alone, functioning as a significant economic engine operating over the course of roughly 100 days each year,” Ajimon Francis, managing director, Brand Finance India.
The report added that Mumbai Indians are back as the IPL’s most valuable team. However, their value dropped 9% to $108 million. Brand Finance stated that their playoff qualification, loyal fans, and strong sponsors helped them regain the top spot after losing it to CSK last year.
The team, owned by Reliance Industries, has remained among the IPL’s biggest brands since the league began. However, the overall brand value of the tournament has declined ahead of the 2026 season.
Most Valuable IPL Franchises:
Royal Challengers Bengaluru are just behind Mumbai Indians in the latest brand-value table, with a valuation of $105 million. Their value dropped 10% despite winning their first title. Chennai Super Kings are in third place at $93 million after a steep 24% fall following their last-place finish in 2025.
Several teams faced even heavier losses. Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Rajasthan Royals each saw declines of more than 30%. Delhi Capitals also slipped 26% after missing the playoffs.
Gujarat Titans were the only team to record a small rise, increasing 2% to $70 million. Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants performed better than many others, with only minor dips while improving or holding their positions in the rankings.
