Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Pamban Bridge on 6 April i.e. today, this is India’s first vertical lift Railway Sea Bridge.

The bridge is located on the Palkra Strait in the Pamban region of Tamil Nadu and its length is 2.07 km. This bridge is going to be inaugurated on the day of Ram Navami.

The old Pamban Bridge, which was built in 1914, was now old and it will now be replaced from this new Pamban Bridge.

The new bridge has a 72.5 meter long span, which can be picked up to 17 meters so that large ships can find a way to pass.

This bridge is 3 meters high above sea, which will improve the connectivity of the sea route.

The bridge is made from strong material, such as stainless steel and special paint have been used to avoid rust.

This bridge has been constructed using modern techniques and its age is likely to be more than 100 years. The design of the bridge is such that it can accommodate two tracks, but right now there is only one track.

Rail traffic will be better than the new bridge and there will be no obstruction in marine shipping, which will benefit traffic and trade.
