With the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) securing their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) title, beating Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the summit clash last month at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the trade window in currently open if any of the franchises want to secure services of some players from other teams. While there have been talks of Rajasthan Royals (RR) wicketkeeper-batter and captain Sanju Samson moving to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) after an official confirmed of the franchise’s keen interest, some big moves are also on cards.
According to reports, CSK have been in talks to secure services of Sanju Samson, a few other reports have also revealed that the three-time champions, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are also in to rope in the Kerala keeper-batter. However, a few of the reports have also claimed that RR have turned down KKR’s request, but talks with CSK are still on.
In another big move, the IPL 2025 champions, RCB have been approached by the 2024 winners for England wicketkeeper-batter Phil Salt. It is to be noted that Phil Salt, who won the IPL 2024 title with the Kolkata-based franchise, was roped in by RCB for a sum of INR 11.5 Crore. In 13 matches he played for RCB, he amassed 403 runs, averaging 33.58 at an impressive strike rate of 175.98.
Meanwhile, in KKR colours, the England international played a pivotal role, scoring 435 runs in 12 matches at an economy of 182. During his campaign, he struck four 50-plus scores with his highest score of unbeaten 89 coming against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). With the IPL trade window currently open, KKR have opened a deal with RCB to trade Venkatesh Iyer in place of Salt.
Although, the trade deal is likely to fade away despite suggestions coming from RCB captain Rajat Patidar, if the move is done, Salt could be a great pick, seeing KKR struggle with Quinton de Kock and Gurbaz’s form, along with inconsistent opening partnerships which were visible in IPL 2025.
