Despite a valiant effort from Ayush Mhatre, who struck 94, and an unbeaten 77 from Ravindra Jadeja, Chennai Super Kings narrowly missed out, falling short by just two runs against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their IPL clash on Saturday.
In pursuit of a target of 214, CSK ended their innings at 211 for 5 after 20 overs.
Mhatre crafted a fluent 94 off 48 balls, hammering five maximums and nine boundaries, and built a crucial 114-run stand with Jadeja, who remained not out on 77 from 45 deliveries, including eight fours and a pair of sixes.
For RCB, Lungi Ngidi was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3 wickets for 30 runs.
Earlier in the match, strong contributions from Jacob Bethell (55), Virat Kohli (62), and a blistering 53* by Romario Shepherd lifted RCB to 213 for 5.
Bethell and Kohli laid the groundwork with a 97-run partnership at the top, while Shepherd exploded late in the innings with a 14-ball 53 that included four boundaries and six over-the-fence shots — the fastest fifty of the current season and tied for the second-fastest ever in IPL history.
Among CSK’s bowlers, Matheesha Pathirana stood out with a spell of 3 wickets for 36 runs in his 3 overs.
Summary:
RCB: 213/5 in 20 overs (Jacob Bethell 55, Virat Kohli 62, Romario Shepherd 53*; Matheesha Pathirana 3/36)
CSK: 211/5 in 20 overs (Ayush Mhatre 94, Ravindra Jadeja 77*; Lungi Ngidi 3/30)

RCB vs CSK Live Score, IPL 2025: That over from Ngidi may have turned the tide of the match. First, he bowled a slower delivery to Mhatre, who attempted to bring up his century in style with a maximum but ended up getting caught at long-on. Then, on the very next ball, Brewis was ruled LBW off a full toss—though to the naked eye, it looked like it might’ve missed. Surprisingly, instead of opting for the review, Brewis went for a quick single and then got caught in a lengthy conversation with Jadeja. In the meantime, the review window closed. As we now see in the replay, the delivery was clearly drifting down leg and would have missed the stumps entirely.
RCB vs CSK Live Score, IPL 2025: Ayush Mhatre has just survived a chance after Rajat Patidar failed to hold on. To be fair, it was a tough opportunity—always drifting away from him—but Patidar did give it a genuine effort. Mhatre has now moved into the 90s. What a remarkable knock this has been from the young talent. He hasn’t just scored fluently but also demonstrated excellent judgment about when to attack and which bowlers to target. And as we speak, a straightforward chance has gone down—Lungi Ngidi has spilled it. It was a slower short delivery from Dayal, and Jadeja went for a pull rather late. The ball flew straight to Ngidi, who was positioned slightly finer than usual, but he couldn’t hold on.
RCB vs CSK Live Score, IPL 2025: Chennai Super Kings are comfortably keeping up with the required rate, and unless Royal Challengers Bengaluru strike soon with a couple of breakthroughs, the game is likely to slip out of their hands. That said, a few quick dismissals could trigger nerves in the CSK lineup, which has battled inconsistency throughout this season. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is back into the bowling attack, and this could be a pivotal over. Earlier, Ayush Mhatre took him apart in his previous spell, damaging his figures significantly. But that’s in the past—this is a fresh opportunity. From Patidar’s point of view, a wicket here would be ideal, but even a tight over could help RCB regain some control.
RCB vs CSK Live Score, IPL 2025: Ayush Mathre and Jadeja are steadily shifting the momentum in Chennai’s favour. The surface is now aiding stroke play, with the ball coming onto the bat far more cleanly than it did earlier in the match. While there was some grip and hold during the first innings, the arrival of dew has tipped the scales heavily toward the batters. RCB urgently needs to rethink their approach—slower balls are no longer effective as they’re sitting up nicely for the hitters. A shift in strategy is critical, perhaps focusing on full-length deliveries or setting fields that restrict shots to one side of the field. Immediate tactical adjustments are essential.
RCB vs CSK Live Score, IPL 2025: The match is delicately poised as Lungi Ngidi’s timely breakthrough in the final over of the powerplay removed Sam Curran, shifting momentum in favor of RCB. With Ravindra Jadeja now at the crease alongside Mathre, CSK’s hopes rest on their ability to build a steady partnership. The increasing dew on the outfield poses challenges for the bowlers, particularly spinners, as the ball becomes slippery and harder to grip. RCB must strategize accordingly, possibly adjusting their bowling plans to counter the effects of the dew and maintain control over the game.
RCB vs CSK Live Score, IPL 2025: Rasheed became the first batter to be dismissed, attempting to drive one through the off-side but finding the fielder at point. Despite the wicket, Super Kings have laid a solid platform. Sam Curran came in at number three and made an immediate impact, striking a boundary off his first delivery. Meanwhile, Lungi Ngidi has been introduced into the attack—it’s his first appearance in this edition of the tournament. Known for his clever change of pace, Ngidi doesn’t make it obvious, often varying his speed by just 5-10 KMPH. His overs could prove valuable for Bengaluru later in the innings.
RCB vs CSK Live Score, IPL 2025: After three overs, the Super Kings have made a steady start to their innings. Though it hasn’t matched RCB’s explosive opening, they’ve managed to hold onto all their wickets. Ayush has shown clear attacking intent, taking on the bowlers confidently, whereas Rasheed has occasionally looked limited in his shot selection, struggling to maintain the required scoring rate. As observed earlier, CSK needs to capitalize heavily during the powerplay since scoring becomes more difficult once the ball loses hardness. RCB also possesses bowlers like Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Lungi Ngidi, who are adept at using variations to good effect in the later stages.
RCB vs CSK Live Score, IPL 2025: Romario Shepherd turned the game on its head with a breathtaking late onslaught, hammering 53 runs off just 14 balls in a display of raw power. In the penultimate over, he smashed Khaleel Ahmed for 33 runs, and continued the carnage against Pathirana in the final over. He launched a massive six over long-off, followed by another towering hit into the midwicket crowd, and then dragged a slower ball for four to long-on. Despite a rare swing-and-miss, his destruction left CSK stunned and ensured a monumental finish for his side. A death overs masterclass from Shepherd!
RCB vs CSK Live Score, IPL 2025: Romario Shepherd unleashed absolute mayhem in the 19th over, smashing 33 runs to register the most expensive over of IPL 2025. It started with a huge six off a slower ball, followed by another monster strike down the ground. Even the edges went for boundaries as a thick edge over short third fetched four more. A full toss was punished for six, then an extraordinary six over point off a no-ball, as Khaleel’s back foot crossed the return crease. He followed that with a wide yorker to save the free hit, but Shepherd had the last laugh – finishing the over with a top-edged four over short fine leg. A nightmare for Khaleel, and pure destruction from Shepherd!
