A touch short from Krunal, Rutherford pulls to deep midwicket for one. Buttler cuts one to deep point for one. Rutherford punches one to long on for one. Six!! Five singles off the first five balls and Rutherford deposits the last ball into the stands.. 11 from the over.
Hazlewood with his third over. Change in ball. Sudharsan turns a short-of-a-length ball to midwicket for one. Buttler rotates strike with a single. WICKET!! Attempted ramp shot from Sudharsan, doesn’t connect well and Jitesh takes a good diving catch.
Sai Sudharsan c Jitesh Sharma b Hazlewood 49(36)
Sherfane Rutherford walks in as the impact player. Four!! Rutherford cuts one past a diving deep third man to open his account with a boundary.
Krunal back for his second. Sudharsan gets a single to long on. Six!! In the slot, Buttler heaves it over deep midwicket for six! Four!! A touch short from Krunal, Sudharsan pulls it past the deep midwicket fielder for a boundary. 100 up for GT in the chase. Four!! Another pull shot, falls short of Kohli at deep midwicket, and he injures his finger in an attempt to stop that pacy shot. 17 from the over.
Dayal with his third. Back of a length on Buttler’s body, defended. Same ball, same result. Four! A touch wide, Buttler cuts it past short third for a boundary. Buttler punches one to mid off and scampers across for one. Six from the over.
Krunal Pandya into the attack. Full on the pads, and flicked away by Buttler for a single. Beaten! Sudharsan for the reverse-sweep, but completely misses the ball. FOUR! Sudharsan rocks back, and pulls this through midwicket to the boundary. Cut away to point for one more by Sudharsan. Turned away off the pads by Buttler for another single. That’s the 50 partnership in 31 balls.
Rasikh into the attack again. Cut away by Sudharsan for a single behind point. FOUR! Buttler steps down the track and pulls this in front of midwicket to the boundary. SIX! Top edge, and the ball sails over the boundary behind the keeper. Buttler stepped out and looked to go over mid-on, but it went off his top edge and in the opposite direction. He won’t mind the result, though. SIX! Second maximum of the over. Short, hip-high, and pulled behind deep square-leg by Buttler for six runs. Pushed to mid-on by Buttler to end the over with a single.
Dayal again. He gets the ball to seam back in and stay low, to beat Sudharsan’s square-drive. FOUR! Cut away, point did get a hand to it, but it was hit too hard, and Sudharsan collects a boundary. Beaten! This one shapes away a touch to beat Sudharsan’s waft outside off. Cut away now straight to the point fielder by Sudharsan. Pushed to point by Sudharsan for a quick single.
Rasikh Dar into the attack. Buttler collects a single through point after a couple of dot balls. FOUR! Pulled over midwicket by Sudharsan for a boundary. Short again, and guided to deep third by Sudharsan for one more. Flicked off the hips by Buttler, and it beats a diving Jitesh Sharma behind the stumps to run away to the boundary. GT brings up its 50 in exactly seven overs.
Yash Dayal into the attack. Driven to mid-off by Buttler for a quick single. FOUR! Drifting on the pads, and flicked through square-leg by Sudharsan for a boundary. A quick single next ball as he drops the ball in front of point. A leading edge for Buttler, and the ball lands safely on offside, and the batters will steal another quick single. Driven to mid-on for a very quick single by Sudharsan. Buttler is not happy with the spider cam’s positioning and interrupts the bowler in his run up. Tucked to mid-on by Buttler for another single to end the PowerPlay.
Devdutt Padikkal has been subbed out, and in comes Rasikh Dar as Impact Player. Bhuvi again in the PowerPlay. SIX! In the slot on off-stump, and Gill has launched this over long-on for a big maximum. OUT! And Gill is gone next ball. He gets a thick outside edge as he steps out to hammer the ball on the off-side. Livingstone does well to run in from third man and dive forward to complete the catch.
Jos Buttler comes in. Two slips in place for him. Steered to third-man by Buttler for a single to end the over.
Shubman Gill c Liam Livingstone b Bhuvneshwar Kumar 14 (14b 1×4 1×6)
Hazlewood again. He continues to test Gill outside off, and beats him with some extra bounce too. Pushed to point by Gill for a tight single after two dot balls. FOUR! Sudharsan breaks the shackles with some innovation. Angling away outside off, Sudharsan pre-empts that, shuffles across and laps it to the boundary behind the keeper. FOUR! Sudharsan steps out now and drills the ball down the ground for a boundary.
Bhuvi again. Guided behind point by Sudharsan for a single. Tapped to mid-on by Gill for another quick single. Turned off the hips awkwardly by Sudharsan for one more behind square-leg. Gill steps out, but Bhuvi pulls his length back, so Gill can only defend the ball on off-side. Guided behind point by Gill for a single.
Josh Hazlewood from the other end. He starts off with a back-of-a-length delivery that angles away and Sudharsan is beaten trying to slash it in the air. Sudharsan now goes for a slash wide outside off and misses, but called a wide by the umpire. Punched off the backfoot by Sudharsan to mid-on for a quick single as Hazlewood continues homing in on a short-of-a-good-length. A couple of dot balls as Hazlewood gives Gill no room outside off. FOUR! Full, outside off and Gill pounces on that one with an aerial drive, which fetches him a boundary.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar to start proceedings with the ball. B. Sai Sudharsan on strike. Over the wicket. Fullish on the stumps, and Sudharsan takes a few steps in front to negate the swing and nudges the ball on leg-side. Shortish and tucked off the hips for a single by Sudharsan – called a leg-bye. Dropped in front of point by Gill for a quick single. Two slips in place for Sudharsan. Beaten! This one jags back in after angling in and beats Sudharsan’s waft outside off. Tucked away to deep square-leg by the left-hander for a couple. Flicked off the pads by Sudharsan for one more to end the over.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru posted 169 for eight in 20 overs in its first home match of IPL 2025 against Gujarat Titans at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday.
Prasidh to bowl the final over. Tim David on strike. Short of a length on the body, mistimed to midwicket. David denies the single. David miscues another attempted lofted shot, falls in between three converging fielders! Four!! Short of a length again, the inside edge runs past a diving Buttler and runs away to the fence. Six!! Short and wide, lofted over the offside and it comfortably clears the fence! Four!! Short ball at the body, pulled fine for four more. WICKET!! Searing yorker to finish, cleans up Tim David’s off stump. Good effort at the death but 169 looks well under par for RCB.
Siraj back. WICKET! Short and wide outside off, Livingstone feathers one back to the keeper.
Livingstone c Buttler b Siraj 54(40)
Bhuvneshwar in at 9. Gets a single to long on to bring David back on strike. Short ball at the Aussie, he ducks under it and lets it fly to the keeper. Single off the last ball of the over.
Rashid continues. Livingstone misses his sweep again. Big appeals for lbw but not given on field. No reviews left for GT too. Six!! Low full toss, Livingstone sweeps it towards deep square, Sai Kishore can’t reach it despite a full stretch above his head. Six!! Another length ball, swept over deep square for another six. Six!! Another slog sweep and that brings the third six of the over. Rashid has been plundered at the Chinnaswamy today. Ends with figures of 0/54. Fifty for Livingstone!
Sai Kishore with his third. Livingstone guides one to short third, David sends him back. A single to the offside next ball. Six!! David makes just enough contact on his attempted pull to clear the deep midwicket fence. Flat bats one to long off for one. A single to deep extra cover for Livingstone. Beats David’s outside edge with the last ball.
Rashid again. Six!! Livingstone rocks back and lofts the length ball over deep midwicket and just manages to clear the fielder. Another attempted pull, falls just short of Siraj who dived forward in an attempt to hold on. Four!! Outside edge as David wafts at one outside off, runs past slip and to the fence for four.
WICKET!! Krunal done in by the lack of pace, gets a leading edge off his legside flick and Sai Kishore completes a simple catch.
Krunal Pandya c and b Sai Kishore 5(5)
Tim David in at 8. Two runs and a wicket from the over.
Sai Kishore puts in a splendid effort at the deep to keep Rashid’s first ball to just two. Livingstone is yorked by Rashid but Buttler makes a mess of it behind the stumps, fails to stump him out in time. Four!! Full on the pads, swept fine through fine leg by Krunal.
Sai Kishore back. Jitesh’s attempted sweep falls just short of the fielder running in from the deep. Livingstone is rapped on the thigh after missing an attempted slog. Gets a single to short third. WICKET!! Jitesh steps down and looks to loft one down the ground, the edge flies straight up and Tewatia doesn’t fluff it this times.
Jitesh Sharma c Rahul Tewatia b Sai Kishore 33(21)
Krunal in at 7.
Rashid Khan into the attack. Livingstone misses his sweep and the fielders appeal for lbw. Not given on field. GT review. Umpire’s call on impact and wickets missing says ball tracking. The Englishman survives. Six!! Full and on the stumps, Livingstone sweeps it over deep square leg for six. Whips one to deep midwicket for a single. Four!! Jitesh moves across and sweeps one fine past short fine for a boundary.
Sai Kishore into the attack. Livinsgrone cuts a shorter delivery to deep point for one. Jitesh miscues his pull but it falls well short of the fielders in the deep. Livingstone almost inside edges one into the stumps, ricochets off his pads. Dropped! Livingstone mistimes his attempted lofted shot, but Tewatia puts down a sitter at long on. Four!! A touch overpitched, slammed through cover for a boundary.
Prasidh will bowl his third over, after going for just three in his first two. Back of a length just outside off, and tucked towards midwicket by Livingstone for a dot ball. FOUR! A nasty bouncer, angling into Livingstone, who does well to arch his back and move out of the way. Lucky he also gets some bat on that as the ball flies over a leaping Buttler to the boundary behind. A couple of singles to follow as Prasidh continues to bowl back-of-a-length deliveries. This one is fuller, and pushed to deep point by Livingstone for a single. Short and outside off, and Jitesh looks to slash it over the keeper but misses.
Ishant will continue. Slashed behind point by Livingstone for a single, and his bat flies out of his hand as he plays the shot. That’s 50 up for RCB in 8.1 overs. SIX! In the slot, and Jitesh was sent the ball over long-on for a 78-metre six. This is swung away across the line for a couple more by Jitesh through midwicket. FOUR! Short and wide and slashed by Jitesh through point for a boundary. Driven to extra-cover by Jitesh for a dot ball. FOUR! Width outside off, and slashed beyond point by Jitesh for another boundary. Seventeen runs from the over and finally some cheer for the home crowd heading into the strategic time out.
Prasidh again. A single towards deep midwicket for Livingstone to start the over. Jitesh moves across to lap this behind the keeper on leg-side, but the ball is too full and he can only nurdle it on the off-side for a dot ball. Three dot balls in a row as Jitesh guides this with open bat face to point. Prasidh is extracting good bounce on this wicket, and keeping his lengths very tight. This was slightly fuller outside off but driven by Jitesh straight to cover for a fourth dot ball in a row. This one jags back into Jitesh, who defends it on the off-side. Just a single from the over.
Ishant Sharma into the attack. FOUR! Drilled through covers by Patidar for a cracking boundary. OUT! LBW appeal and given out, and Patidar has to go back. He swung his bat across the line, and missed as the ball skidded through a bit. That was plumb in front and Patidar doesn’t even review it.
Jitesh Sharma comes in next. He shuffles across his stumps and looks to sweep this from wide outside off first ball and lets the ball go finally.
FOUR! Short, and hooked away to the fine-leg fence by Jitesh. Steered just behind point by Jitesh to end the over with a couple more.
Rajat Patidar lbw b Ishant Sharma 12 (12b 2×4)
Prasidh Krishan will bowl the final over of the PowerPlay. He induces Patidar’s leading edge first ball of the over and the ball just drops in front of the point fielder.
Beaten! Good length on off-stump, and moves away late off the pitch to beat Livingstone’s outside edge. A big swing and a miss from Patidar outside off-stump. Beaten! This one moves away again off the pitch from a good length, and Patidar is nowhere close to making contact. A miscued pull towards fine-leg for a single by Patidar to end the over.
Salt gets an inside edge on the pull, and he runs across for a quick single. A direct-hit from Siraj at the non-striker’s would have meant curtains for Salt. Second life for him tonight. Flicked by Patidar to mid-on for a single.
SIX! Salt steps out, and absolutely clatters this over deep midwicket, and the ball has gone over the roof and outside the stadium. That was 105 metres long.
Bowled next ball and Siraj strikes back. He backed away outside leg-stump and stepped out to smash it over the infield on the off-side but the ball rattled into his off-stump. A loud appeal for lbw as Liam Livingstone comes in but not given out. This one stayed low to rap Livingstone on the pads. GT has reviewed this. Ball-tracking shows the ball was missing leg-stump and also just going over. Livingstone survives and GT loses a review. Yorker to end the over and Livingstone jams it out.
Phil Salt b Mohammed Siraj 14 (13b 1×4 1×6)
image (2).jpg
Arshad again. Another leg-bye to start the over as Salt misses the flick behind square as Arshad bowls it on a short of a good length on leg-stump. This is swinging away outside leg-stump and called a wide. FOUR! This is crunched over midwicket by Patidar and the skipper gets his first boundary. Flicked to mid-on now by Patidar for a single. FOUR! Salt finally gets going. Angling away outside off, and Salt slaps it on the up through covers to find the boundary for the first time tonight. Heaved away to deep square-leg for one more by Salt to end the over.
Siraj continues. Salt goes for the sweep but misses the ball and collects one leg-bye. OUT! Bowled him and Padikkal has to go. The left-hander stepped out to hammer this on the off-side, but the ball was angling away and knocked into off-stump.
Rajat Patidar comes in now. Siraj bowls one outside off to the RCB skipper, who lets the ball go. However, umpire calls it a dead-ball, so Siraj will have to reload that one.
Loud appeal for lbw, as Siraj goes full and Patidar is rapped on the front pad. However, umpire turns the appeal down and Gujarat doesn’t review, probabaly knowing that was missing leg-stump. A single for Salt at mid-on to end the over.
Devdutt Padikkal b Mohammed Siraj 4 (3b 1×4)
image (1).jpg
Arshad Khan into the attack. Clipped off the toes by Kohli behind square-leg for a couple. A couple of dot balls in a row as Arshad first pitches it short of a good length on leg-stump, and then goes for an in-swinging yorker. OUT! Kohli holes out at deep square-leg and the Chinnaswamy is silenced!
FOUR! Devdutt Padikkal is off the mark with a boundary. He drives through point and a misfield allows him to collect four runs.
Virat Kohli c Prasidh Krishna b Arshad Khan 7 (6b 1×4)
image.jpg
Virat Kohli and Phil Salt are in the middle to kick start the innings, and Mohammed Siraj will shortly be bowling against his former team. That battle should spice things up and lend this already tantalising contest some more context.
Siraj to Salt. Miscued pull first ball and the ball lands safely at square-leg for a single. FOUR! Kohli drives on the up through covers first ball and finds the boundary. Dabbed behind point next ball for a single by Kohli. Slashed hard by Salt but straight to the point fielder. Two men in the deep on leg-side for Salt with two balls left in the over.
Dropped! Buttler has spilt this chance behind the stumps. Salt stepped out looking to go over covers, but got an edge to the the wicketkeeper, who drops an easy one. Another short ball to end the over and Salt is too late on the pull.

On paper, in the lead-up to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 and on the field during the opening two matches, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has given the impression of a champion outfit.
On display was its considerable batting might, power-hitting ability and shrewd bowling skills as it recorded two fantastic victories over defending champion Kolkata Knight Riders and bogey side Chennai Super Kings.
Wednesday will be RCB’s first opportunity to showcase its new, confident self to the Garden City faithful when it welcomes Gujarat Titans (GT) to the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
What should give RCB confidence is that Phil Salt up top, skipper Rajat Patidar in the middle, and Liam Livingstone and Tim David lower down have displayed serious batting muscle that can potentially take advantage of the small boundaries.
