India’s discarded wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan is on a few Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises’ radar ahead of the mini-auction. Released by Mumbai Indians (MI) and roped in by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for Rs 11.25 crore in the mega action, Kishan may find a new home during the trading window. 

As per a report by TOI, the three franchises interesting in acquiring in wicketkeeper-batter Kishan’s services are MI, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR). It may be a potential trade/all-cash deal for the top-order batter. 

MI had Ryan Rickelton as their prominent wicketkeeping option. As Rickelton left for World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final preparations, they roped in Jonny Bairstow as their temporary replacement. If they rope in Kishan, they may have to let go of a prominent player from the current squad or a few via trade deal. Also if Rohit Sharma decides to leave in next few years, Kishan will be a part of the core team.

KKR rued releasing Phil Salt. Quinton de Kock did not live up to expectations and Rahmanullah Gurbaz has not been at his best either. KKR may look to release Venkatesh Iyer to free up their purse. Even getting in in the mini-auction may save them plenty of crores.

If SRH decide to trade Kishan, they already have Heinrich Klaasen as wicketkeeper-batter option. However, they will need a good Indian batter in the top or middle order to fill-in for Kishan’s absence. In that case RR’s Sanju Samson may be a good option. If RR rope in Kishan for next season, they will have three left-handed batters in top order until and unless Yashasvi Jaiswal isn’t part of the squad. 

Kishan was not at his best in IPL 2025. He started with a bang, scoring an unbeaten 106 against RR. From 13 innings, he scored 354 runs at an average of 35.40 and strike rate of 152.28. Apart from a century in SRH’s campaign opener, the southpaw could score just one fifty.

Kishan scored two half-centuries from as many innings for Nottinghamshire in the County Championship clashes. He got injured and missed out on replacing Rishabh Pant on England tour after the latter got injured. 

After recovering from injury, he was dismissed cheaply in Irani Cup. He followed it up with a 173-run knock, rescuing Jharkhand against Tamil Nadu in their Ranji Trophy 2025-26 opener. Jharkhand won the match by an innings and 114 runs in Coimbatore.
