Kerala batter and Rajasthan Royals’ captain Sanju Samson became the most expensive player in the Kerala Cricket League (KCL) as Kochi Blue Tigers bought him for Rs. 26.8 lakh at the KCL Auction on Saturday.
Samson broke the previous record by a huge margin, surpassing the tag of Rs. 7.4 lakh, paid by Trivandrum Royals for M.S. Akhil.
The 30-year-old, who missed the inaugural edition of the tournament last year, was part of the 39-player Category A pool in the auction.
Samson will hope to make the most of some much-needed game time after a truncated Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign, where he could only play nine matches due to injury. He amassed 285 runs at a strike rate of 140.39 and managed to score just one half-century as Rajasthan Royals finished ninth in the 10-team table.
